Burnout Contests To EV Chargers With Real Garage Lessons
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Burnouts, busted brackets, and battery chargers sound like three different worlds, but they all live in the same garage. We start with the kind of loose, honest shop talk you’d expect after a long day: pizza problems, heat, house projects, and the constant temptation to run a Jeep topless even when the forecast looks sketchy.
Then we get into the good stuff from Central City, including a burnout contest breakdown that goes beyond “spin tires, make smoke.” We talk surfaces, judging, why diesel smoke can swallow the whole show, and the moments that actually stand out, like watching a student lay down impressively clean exhaust welds on rusty pipe. If you’re into car culture, automotive education, or motorsports-adjacent chaos, there’s a lot to chew on here.
From there, the conversation shifts to real-world project planning: missing brackets, coilover mounting, frame prep, and the mindset of getting a rig to “roller” status so the rest of the build feels possible. We also wrestle with the EV future, including Tesla Autopilot debate, commuting efficiency, home charging setup, breaker and wire sizing, and practical garage placement so you’re not stepping over cords forever. We wrap with the everyday maintenance that keeps life moving: Impala suspension clunks, mirror and sensor fixes, backup camera frustration, and the pure comedy of selling a parts vehicle online.
Subscribe for more unfiltered garage talk, share the episode with a friend who lives for projects, and leave a review so more gearheads can find us. What’s the one upgrade or fix you’d tackle first after listening?

Cold Open And Chaos
SPEAKER_02Hot shit. I'm going down, down, baby. Let it go. They can have that this week. That's what they're getting. I know. Who doesn't love a little uh little Nelly on their Tuesday morning? Don't don't care for him. Or Wednesday, or whenever they're gonna kick tires like the fires.
Hosts Check In And Life Updates
SPEAKER_02I'm your host, the dude. Across from me, Big G Unit. And as always, our faithful captain, who is less than enthusiastic tonight. I'd just like to say that. My ah was way more enthusiastic than his kick the tires, light the fires.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. Oh gosh, sorry about that, folks. You dying? He's dying.
SPEAKER_00I was just letting him enjoy that. That was a pepperoni stuck in the throat.
SPEAKER_02Oh God.
SPEAKER_00I'm dying.
SPEAKER_01He's still talking, so that means you got air.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I always like that when I got athletes. I'm like, I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I'm like, if you can talk, you can breathe. Right.
SPEAKER_00Hyundai. I was just letting them enjoy that ASMR of Geyer chomping on his pizza there for a minute. Let's just see how long it would go. I got you. I am kind of tired. I'm like, oh got things accomplished today. I've got like I'm ready to go all night long.
SPEAKER_02You've been ready to go all night long? I'm just like Well, you had a day of indentured servitude yesterday. That wasn't very hard work. Billy Billy did most of the work. That's good for Billy.
Cedar Stain Heat And Jeep Weather
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What were you, what was what was the task at hand yesterday?
SPEAKER_01Uh the stained like all the the cedar on the house, front and back. Like so they rented a man lift to go up over the big tall, and I don't do heights. That's a Billy thing. It seems like Billy work. Yeah. So, you know. I just kind of hang out and drink some beers. I cut some plywood to hang on the wall. There you go. Wasn't too hard work.
SPEAKER_02I've got to handle some wood occasionally.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it wasn't too bad. I went and melted in Central City. It was a warm out.
SPEAKER_02It was a little toasty yesterday. A little? Out at their house with the wind, it wasn't bad. It was not as bad as Tuesday. I don't remember Tuesday. Heat index was over a hundred on Tuesday. At least in old wine where the girls were running. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what it was.
SPEAKER_02Well, I guess, and the boys too.
SPEAKER_00The AC didn't keep up in the Jeep, so I was hot.
SPEAKER_02A warm one. Did you have the top and the doors off? Oh, yeah. Well, that's why it wouldn't keep up. No, sometimes it will. Sometimes at least you can feel the cool breeze blowing on you. Sometimes that's enough.
SPEAKER_00But when it's that hot, that ain't enough. Maybe it's just I was passenger princess, so. Just riding passenger. I don't know. I sent a picture asking if I was doing it right. I never really heard back.
SPEAKER_02You were too Jeepy. We gotta get Dr. Kelly a foot peg so she can stick her foot out the door. No.
SPEAKER_00He she has them. They're hanging on the wall right downstairs by his parts.
SPEAKER_02We are not putting a foot peg. Just pull up the church, damn I. Boy. Bold of you, Dr. Kelly, to drive your vehicle without the top on, and it's gonna rain in 30 minutes. She goes, it is not already checked the weather. Yeah, I already checked the weather.
SPEAKER_01I brought Kaylin's car. Drove Kaylin's car today so she could have the truck because she wasn't sure what weather was gonna do.
SPEAKER_02Doss Chad has joined the chat. You have the same idea for a meal that I did, Mr.
SPEAKER_00Sellers. You will have to pick what you what we are beveraging over there, because I did not pick anything yet. Probably.
SPEAKER_02By probably. I'm guessing definitely.
Central City Burnouts And A Star Student
SPEAKER_00But well, went on to Central City, watched burnouts, and it's got three burnouts.
SPEAKER_01Not very interesting.
SPEAKER_00So there was more diesel smoke than there was tire smoke from the one.
SPEAKER_02It's kind of my theory on the burnout contest. Once you've seen one burnout, yeah, we have.
SPEAKER_00That's the one from Dyer's Hill that dad brought. That's it. JB3's on us.
SPEAKER_02Um, once you've seen one burnout, you've pretty much seen them all.
SPEAKER_00Not necessarily. Because the the diesel truck, you couldn't see the truck because it was just diesel smoke everywhere. Um and then uh uh one of your students with his 1500 Chevrolet with chrome hood stacks.
SPEAKER_02I'll say that kid, he's an absolutely amazing kid to have in class.
SPEAKER_00I talked to his mom and dad afterwards. I didn't realize it was him until they came up afterwards.
SPEAKER_02He's a great kid, he's the first kid I've had in 21 years that can weld exhaust better than me. Damn. That kid, and it was some rusty stuff I just watched him weld just the other day. It was rusty.
SPEAKER_00He kept cut, he kept getting out of it, and I was like, What's he doing?
SPEAKER_02Um, and he uh he did a really nice job on that exhaust, welding something that probably should have been replaced, yeah, welding it all back together. I bet he had it. There was a gap between where it was rusted out that I could stick my pinky through for about halfway around the pipe.
SPEAKER_00Ethan showed me a video.
SPEAKER_02Hold on, Chad, hold on.
SPEAKER_00Go ahead now.
SPEAKER_03Ethan showed me a video of uh his burnout. He said, wait, wait till about the one minute 30 mark. Whoever to his video and is gonna zoom in on a on his face in the track, and he's just the happiest little fella.
SPEAKER_00Grinning from ear to ear. So you watched the video of it, yeah, and you heard how it would rev up and then he'd fall out and rev up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was like shifting or what was happening.
SPEAKER_00Uh I talked to his dad afterwards, and uh it when the uh tire speed hits 120, she cuts out, drops back to 80, then it'll rev right back up. So he was trying to find to keep it going at night. He's trying to keep it at 110. Yeah, about 90, 110, but couldn't do it. The little Miata thing came in after him, and they uh they chalk your front wheels. And it was push the chalks out of the way. He had some I heard somebody say that it must a friend of their mom or whatever. Uh she was standing off to the side. I heard her say, Well, yeah, last week he was down at Hawkeye Downs drifting around the track. So I'm like, Oh, it's a drift car that he just came to do burnouts with. And I'm like, I wonder if he changed tires. But two minutes later, I'm like, no, he didn't change tires. That kid's burning off some expensive tires. But some people got more money than brains, and that's okay, because usually it ends up being pretty cool. It's pretty, it's usually not hard to get a burnout going when it's wet steel plate. Oh, is that what they're doing? Four by eight sheets of steel plate laid down so they didn't hurt the road. And I I I ran into uh Mr. White down there and talked with him and another guy for a little bit. And of course, you know, we have our plans for next year. And I said, Yeah, I said, I gotta make sure I talk to Dylan, make sure we put an anchor point in. He goes, Do you know what I think you're gonna do? I said, Yep, I got a set of 38-inch super swampers that are three-quarters bald. They're going on the scout, and we're doing all four wheels.
SPEAKER_01So you need a big anchor point then, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But we uh they so down there it was two minutes. Run as much as you want for two minutes, and then they had a panel of judges sitting there, and it ranges from an old guy to a young kid. There's like three, I think there's four or five judges sitting under nice tent. What are the what's the criteria? Yeah, I did not get anything beyond that.
SPEAKER_01See, most burnout contests are like whip donies and they're spinning around. Not necessarily this is just like a sit there. There's tutor.
SPEAKER_00So you have like the burnout pad, like you're talking about whipping donuts and stuff like that. Most of them around here are concrete barriers on three sides. You pull up, you back in, the fire department's wetting down the surface to get you going, and then you get set them on a time or go till tires blow, whatever. So I know how we're doing ours yet, but we were down there for research purposes.
SPEAKER_01I'll try back at you in there and let her eat so much.
SPEAKER_02So was it they just not have was the like registration not open long?
SPEAKER_00Or do you think it was more the heat than anything that there was eight total that did burnouts? I guess we only got there for the last three. Um we were running a little behind because I had garage door issues. So that I didn't get fixed till today until Court figured it out. And we had to do some metal work. But anyways, a lot of nice cars on there. Most of them I'd seen around the area before. Um there was one nice C50, C60, super singles. There was the only one Annie made a comment about. She thought that would have looked really nice. She goes, that might that would be kind of nice to pull our trailer. I'm like, whoa, don't start with me. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_01So there must have been something going on today because Caleb and his buddies were somewhere because I seen a Snapchat of all three of them lined up next to each other. So he had a Mustang and uh Cobalt SS and the the Corvette. Oh, all lined up.
SPEAKER_00There isn't Andrew also, are you in here? I'm like, yeah. She goes, Brad's here. I'm like, oh okay, he said he was stopping by. I said, she came out of the bathroom. I'm like, all right, I'll go see me spray out in the shop with court. She goes, No, they're in the front yard. Yeah, you better get out here.
Surprise Three Wheeler Birthday Gift
SPEAKER_00I walk out and they're unloading a three-wheeler. I'm like, what are you doing? Brad goes, well, I bought this. Happy birthday. I said, it's not my birthday till next month. Well, it's early, he said. Apparently, I don't even remember seeing in the front in the group chat, but somebody had said he said, Well, it was in the group chat, and I called the guy and got hold of him. And Brad was trying to start, he's like, It really does run, and kind of get sturt. And we just sat there.
SPEAKER_01Well, it probably got flooded when he lifted. Bounced out of there and everything. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, we sat and talked to them for 20 minutes or something like that. I guess he get he figured out, I said, Hey, can you figure out your electrical in the boat? Yeah, I had one of the batteries hooked up backwards.
SPEAKER_02That'll do it. That'll do it. Shit, that'll do it every fucking time.
SPEAKER_00So they got that's right, and then he uh they were headed to the lake. I guess I they're like, we haven't been on the lake in a while. Since mid-July, she Krista said, so Well, that's probably the weekend they took us out. I think it was actually because they've had they went to uh what Montana or whatever for a week, and Brad's been driving a lot. So anyways, he uh they're jumping the truck, so I walk over and flip it on, you know, look at flip the choke, give her a yank, fires right up. He looks over and he's like, How'd you do that?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if he choked it when he was trying to start.
SPEAKER_00He might not have, but fired up and I wrote a crowd. Yeah, yeah. Wheelie's like a 110, turned around, rode a wheelie towards him. So I did message him after you left and I went inside to get some eat. I'm like, are you sure? This is really you know, I didn't I'm build helping you build your truck because because he said that he was a birthday and helping for helping him build the truck. I'm like, I'm hoping you build a truck because that's what brothers do. I said, I don't I don't need any payment for that.
SPEAKER_02By the way, Court, you owe him one.
SPEAKER_00One, two, three, yeah, yeah, but he uh he goes, nah, he goes, he goes, even if you hadn't done all that, he goes, that smile on your face when you're riding a wheelie was worth it. So I said, Well, I said, when I get the other ones running, we have to go for a ride. So we either somebody's riding the 70, or we gotta find one more yet.
SPEAKER_01So we all can go. Rocking the 70.
SPEAKER_02I can find a drive the truck with the trailer so that when one of them breaks down, we can just throw it on.
SPEAKER_00They're hidas, they don't break down.
SPEAKER_03That's true. I'll drive the wimpy one.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna drive that one, so I didn't get hurt.
SPEAKER_00There's no there's no two strokes out there yet. So that's what you were thinking too, Chad. You can't, you gotta be really trying to get yourself hurt on a 110.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Have you met your friend Chad?
SPEAKER_00Well, that's true. You were on a bicycle and damn near killed yourself. So taking your own ditch, but now we're gonna have fun. It's gonna be a so that one's super clean. That guy, you might have to fight prize for that one. That one's got a super comfy seat on it. It's like all redone and it's fancy.
Missing Brackets And Build Timeline Reality
SPEAKER_01My ears are are still ringing from that fucking air hammer. I hate air hammering. I thought we were done air hammering. Unfortunately, we're not.
SPEAKER_00I forgot to take a bracket off.
SPEAKER_01I think we're gonna take one more off.
SPEAKER_00A whole ass car. We do actually have to take a whole two one and a whole other cross member off. But there are eight links hooked to two axles to the frame. We can't find two brackets.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. No idea. I don't think I've ever seen them.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure that they gotta be here somewhere. I'm positive I brought them home.
SPEAKER_02But missing a couple.
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm pretty sure I I brought home, I had ordered him some brackets that would bolt to the top of the forward knuckle inner the inner C, so his coil over can mount right to the top of that. And that's like the furthest point out you can put it without it getting interfering with anything. Super simple, easy. And can't find them anywhere. Can't find them anywhere. But I mean, that was like a long time ago, four score and three years ago or something. It was a while ago. It's been a while.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's almost a year ago. Oh, it's getting honestly.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah. We're not wrong. We started tearing apart in the spring, didn't we?
SPEAKER_00That one. Yeah. So yeah, not quite a year. Yeah, because we didn't get that till the spring.
SPEAKER_02The green one. Yeah, but you'd have had the parts back when you were doing the YJ, though, wouldn't you? That's true. Yeah, because it's the same axles.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it might have been right around that.
SPEAKER_02Did you have those axles then? Yeah, I bought that was one of the first things I bought. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So uh we did hoist a tire on the rear axle and things will clear nicely. So we have more up travel than we need or can use. So it's coming along good.
SPEAKER_01I'm ready for it to be a roller. Just look at it. You're ready for what? It to be a roller or something. Once it's a roller, it's not far from being It's not too far from being done. Right. I think a long weekend would put it into a roller.
SPEAKER_00I think a long three-day weekend. You think so? As long as you don't want it re-geared. Yeah. Driving it. I mean always regear it later.
SPEAKER_02I mean, we wouldn't. Well, you could have it driving a three-day as long as your frame was blasted and you know, like you had all the other shit done to it already.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, if you just wanted to get it together, we could have it together. You could take it to core.
SPEAKER_01We'd really have to bust home to have it ready for core.
SPEAKER_00If you didn't, if you like I said, if you didn't want to sandbust the frame and do all that, have it geared.
SPEAKER_02You're just gonna go drag it on fucking rocks anyway.
SPEAKER_00I don't know why you I'm with him though. I wish I would have taken the time to have mine all painted up to start. Then you know every scratch and there's your own.
SPEAKER_01I'm just gonna rattle can it. Like, I'm not gonna go anything crazy with paint. I'm just gonna rattle can it and then that way I can touch it up easy if it gets scratched up or banged. So why sandblast it then if you just like 415 would be a little more durable for scraping on rocks? I want sandblast because I don't like all that crusty, flaky metal, like rusty wire wheel it called a day. If I can pay somebody a couple hundred bucks to just blast it and be done with it, that's right. I'll go. He's upper management.
SPEAKER_02You'll use a lot, you'll use a lot less paint if there's still paint on it. True. Paint's cheap. But at the end of the day, we just need to it's your soap, it's your dick. You can wash it as much as you want.
SPEAKER_00We just need to figure out a uh how to if it needs thin down or if we can just run it as is through the airless. Oh, the that thing works awesome. The enamel, like the spray equipment among be done.
SPEAKER_01That would work. I mean, I'm cool with just brushing it on. I don't give a shit as long as it's all black.
SPEAKER_02I uh saw a guy's meme today. He's like, I made a decision that I'm I'm not telling people that they're wrong anymore unless I'm getting paid to do it. And my lord, I feel so much better now.
SPEAKER_01Like, are you saying it wrong? All that's gone, huh? Are you saying I'm wrong? No, it just made it just made me think about it. Are you saying I'm wrong that I want to sandblast my frame? Uh uh. Nope. You're right. You're right.
SPEAKER_00Ask him if you're wrong about buying another Jeep.
SPEAKER_01Am I wrong about buying another Jeep? I didn't buy another Jeep. Technically, Kelly bought another Jeep.
SPEAKER_02Technically, Kelly bought. I'm trying to talk with having to commute
Tesla Autopilot Debate And Home Charging Plans
SPEAKER_02now. I think he needs to buy himself a Tesla. And those two hours of his drive every day could now be functional work time when he could be doing emails and calls.
SPEAKER_01And I don't know if that would fit into the policy at work. What's that? Yeah. Like our policies are very strict. On what? On driving.
SPEAKER_00We had to pull over so he could call HR back to find out that he got the job.
SPEAKER_02It's a self-driving car. That's what it does. Still driving. Yeah, I'm not sure how they're technically still operating. I'm not sure what they how they would. Still get an OWI.
SPEAKER_00You can still get drunk driving in a Tesla.
SPEAKER_02If you get drunk driving in a freaking Tesla, you're a fucking idiot. Well, I'm just saying. If you get drunk driving in a Tesla, you weren't letting the car do what it was made to do. But it's still possible. Right. I get what you're saying. I do. I'm not arguing with you. I don't. I'm just saying that you're a fucking idiot if you get an OWI in a self-driving car, unless you had a fucking light out.
SPEAKER_00Well, and that's what's gonna happen. Light out, tent, something like that. It's gonna be a stupid reason they pull you over, but then they're gonna be like, oh, well, I wasn't driving.
SPEAKER_01It was driving.
SPEAKER_02I still think if you made the first hour and the last hour of your day a uh productive part of the day instead of an hour or two hours of your day where you're just holding on to the wheel aimlessly looking out the window, I think it'd make your job so much more efficient.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of nice though. Having done it for 16. I've done it for a long time.
SPEAKER_02I'm just saying, like, I haven't I haven't been in it, but from what I've heard from people that have, I think you should try it sometime, Chris. I think you'd like to nap.
SPEAKER_00He told me he napped the other day. I know exactly what you're talking about. He texted me, he goes, I think I fell asleep for a little bit. How long's a little bit? I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01I thought you still had to be paying attention a little bit for it to drive itself. Well, if you just hang your hand on the wheel, that's enough.
SPEAKER_02Okay. A lot of people are just putting a weight on one side of the wheel so that the wheel has to keep fighting back because it thinks that's your hand, you know, like basically your hand resting on the wheel.
SPEAKER_01That's what the bottle of water thing I heard people talking about with Tesla's. That put a bottle of water like they'd have a clamp on the wheel and put a bottle of water in it.
SPEAKER_00So that way But you also have to wear sunglasses.
SPEAKER_01So that way it can't see your eyes. Yep.
SPEAKER_00That's what I was told.
SPEAKER_02I know that Chapman doesn't wear sunglasses and it still let him sleep.
SPEAKER_00Could be that his glasses were reflect just ref reflecting enough that it could I don't maybe but
SPEAKER_02I just know that I've never seen that man in sunglasses. Unless he had like the progressive sunglasses. Is that what they call them progressive? Those ones that auto tint. Auto tint, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, but I'm not saying I'm not I'd be totally for having a a Tesla to drive me to work. I found I have an Annie, but she doesn't always want to drive.
SPEAKER_01I found the a flex charger, like you told me I needed in Wisconsin for 300 bucks. Half the price of flex charger? Yeah, it's a charge point flex. Okay. Is the one that he's suggested. He said to put a 60 amp breaker in my box and run six gauge wire to it, and I'll be future-proof. Like I told you, I think I'd put two in. Put one in for now.
SPEAKER_03Say if he's gonna have another one, it's gonna be on a different wall anyway.
SPEAKER_02Right. The cords are long enough, they'll get to the second door.
SPEAKER_00So you're gonna you get another one.
SPEAKER_02Otherwise, if he puts it on another wall, then he's either gonna take the wire all the way over the door and down or I was looking at the scouts. What side? What side does it plug in on? That's a pretty neat one. Does it plug in on the driver's side or um I mean you could run it all the way up over the door and have it in between the holes in your ceiling?
SPEAKER_01Don't want to do that. Hard pass. Plywood on the walls. On the walls, yeah. The ceiling's steel though. I'm making fun of him because he is. I won't drill a hole in my ceiling to put a lift.
SPEAKER_00He won't take the existing bar two of the some of the existing screws out and put screws back in with a with a grip strut so that he could put a holes coming.
SPEAKER_01I don't want all that. I'm just gonna get those crank, crank, crank.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, then you got sitting in your way all the time. Right now, every time I trip over, like right now, you got a beautifully padded table for Caleb to shit on that thing, then you can get punched in the mouth.
SPEAKER_02I I don't know. I just think you should let Dr. Kelly punch people in the mouth. I think that would be you would next time we're over at court, you just could look right at him and you could quit selling your feet pictures if you caught Dr. Kelly breaking his jaw. That's true.
SPEAKER_01Oh my hands. Yeah, friends.
SPEAKER_02I think if I if if it was me, because eventually we're all gonna have electric cars, right?
SPEAKER_00It's just I might have one, but it won't be the only thing I have.
SPEAKER_02No, and and that's what I was talking about. Yeah, but before like almost they're all young enough. Electric vehicles are gonna be commonplace enough. Everybody's gonna have one.
SPEAKER_00I plan on having I will probably have partial ownership in one as soon as the scouts are available.
SPEAKER_01I like I like the scout that's got the motor in it. That's you have like 500. The harvester package? Yeah, it's like the generator. That was the one that's the generator, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yep.
SPEAKER_00The harvester package is the generator that is an add-on, goes in the back, I think it's right corner, but in towards the back of the vehicle. And it gives you extend your range from 300 miles to 500 miles. Yeah, almost doubles your mileage.
SPEAKER_03Is your garage big enough and the jeeps short enough that if you had two, you could nose to tail in one stall?
SPEAKER_01Uh probably, because right now I've got Rocky and Icky, are but they're touching. Yeah. Like Rocky's touching the wall. Rocky's long, though. Icky's touching the front of Rocky, and there's an inch and a half, maybe.
SPEAKER_02I think those cords on the garage door.
SPEAKER_01Those cords are all a 20 feet long. We got 25 feet on the one that we got now.
SPEAKER_02I mean, they'll they'll get a considerable.
SPEAKER_01So I think I'm gonna have you seen how I redid the garage? Like so I moved, I moved the refrigerator and the freezer down. Oh yeah. So I think I'm gonna take off the wood around the panel, the wood around the door, and that should give me enough space to put the plug-in like down below where the light switch is.
SPEAKER_02On the east side of the door into the house. Yep. Uh basically where the freezer was where the freezer was.
SPEAKER_01But I'm gonna put the outlet down low. Yep. Because the charger, like the cord comes out of the bottom, then it plugs in. So I can hang goes up to the little loop here. Yeah, so I can hang the charger right above it, and then because right now we gotta string it all the way across from where the plug-in is, and so you gotta step over the cord all the time. So I'd like to move the cord when it's a permanent solution on the other side of the door.
SPEAKER_02You need one of those uh uh car wash booms that slide swings around.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, put the cord up and just plus I don't know if I need two of them because I mean the car charges in two hours with that fancy charger. So I'd plug it in. And remember, the next car might have a lot bigger battery that needs to charge overnight.
SPEAKER_02It might. So with level two, it'll charge that battery in two hours. About two and a half hours, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But that's a lot faster than 10 to 12. Uh takes out 14 to charge it from empty on a 110. No shit. Yeah, and you can go 23 or 24 miles. It's kind of a joke. I like it. I mean, it's but it's when you think of a plug-in hybrid, like 20 miles is not very much, but it doesn't kill the battery completely. It's always drive all week on it.
SPEAKER_02Well, no, not during cross season because we practice out at Bailey's. No, so yeah, you gotta but during not cross season? Oh, yeah. I didn't there's a lot of times I might I might drive a few for sure a few days on it.
SPEAKER_01I drove I drove it to Cedar Rapids to work the other day, and I drove it, I charged it to 100%, drove it to Cedar Rapids, plugged it in at work, charged it on a fast charger, so it was charged when I got done. And then does the lion give it to you for free? Yes, the charger didn't cost me anything.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna say there's some of those businesses now, now they're charging for it.
SPEAKER_00That's why I say you should. If you're going back to the tower, get an EV and you gotta just keep it time that if you're always charging it down there.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's I mean, we're averaging 24 24 miles per gallon, however, they calculate it out. You know, that that's not bad for a brick.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, that's obviously the explorer was the explorer would never get more than 18. Obviously, Chapman's situation's a little different because he's got a his some people shingle their roofs, he just did it in solar panels. Um, so he doesn't pay anything at home. Um, but he's put 15,000 miles on that thing since he got it. Wow. And he's only put 400, he's only spent 450 bucks at superchargers. It's not bad.
SPEAKER_01I'm saying it's a lot of people are surprised. Like when Billy found out like that Kelly had stopped there or something. Oh, that's cool. I like the blue. Kelly's like, oh, it's got blue because it's it's a hybrid. He's like, you're right. She's like, no, it's it's a plug-in hybrid. Yeah. Uh-huh. She's like, no, it's a plug-in hybrid. No, look right here. Uh Billy didn't want to admit or didn't want to accept that I decided to go with the whole electric vehicle. I like it though. I think it's fun to drive. It's zippy. Like it's what everybody says.
SPEAKER_02They don't, they don't get like those electric motors give you. Like, is the Prius a lot more when you go to pass someone at 60? It's got more than you think it does. Yeah, I mean, it's not like snappier than you're imagining it does. I'm not saying it's like world beater, right? But it's like it's definitely got a lot more than you're like, oh, a Prius. Oh, what's it go to zero to sixty in an hour?
SPEAKER_03I probably feel like I could pass someone easier the Prius than the Astro Van.
SPEAKER_02Probably. I'd I'd hope so.
SPEAKER_01No, I mean it's I mean, honestly, I think probably my forerunner, too. It does it just feels different than I'm like I said, it's not a fast vehicle, but it just feels different. Like it just you hit the gas and it goes, and it's so fucking weird when you don't hear it. It's like it makes a weird ass fucking sound.
SPEAKER_03Well, they should just make it like the the Jepsons spacecraft or something.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of like that. It sounds kind of like that a little bit. I think the charger is.
SPEAKER_02I think there's a law. Yeah, it's a speaker. It's a noise. Electric vehicles have to that they gotta have make some kind of noise.
SPEAKER_01There's gotta be someone that can hack that system and change the sound so it makes a different sound. I don't know what other sound it would make, but like it'd be funny if it just made a different sound.
SPEAKER_04Every time you hit the gas, that would be the best, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah! I don't think Nodja Kelly would enjoy driving that if it did that. But just like more of a an engine sound versus the new question. We're on the main.
SPEAKER_00Was the noise there when you drove home?
SPEAKER_01The noise there? Oh, yes. Yeah, probably worse.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because now that's solid. Right. So you're ordering
Impala Fix List And Teen Driver Plans
SPEAKER_00parts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I gotta order parts. Kalen's car needs lower control arms and sway bar bushings. Uh 11 oh or 2011 Impala.
SPEAKER_00The cling is friggin' 11 Pella I've seen in a long time.
SPEAKER_01So Kelly's aunt got a new car. So we did some training. She got Lillian's old car. She bought Lillian's old car, and then uh Kaelin. I'm I'm letting them deal with how they're gonna work that all out. How they're gonna work out payments and all that. But uh yeah, she's like, it needs a lot of work. It needs a little work, but I mean for Kalen, it'll work fine. It's a little rusty in the rear end, but nothing. I mean, the all the suspension stuff's in there tight, but it you're gonna have to I'm gonna have to watch it. You know what I mean? Like it's starting to go away, but it's got 263,000 miles on it.
SPEAKER_02Cameron drives an 06, and that thing's got more frickin' clunks and bangs. It it's got a little. It's got a cam in it. Um those and the impaloes will run forever. Yeah, Impala or Malibu?
SPEAKER_01Impalo. You don't even need to worry about like I'm gonna fix it. That's annoying. That was driving me nuts. Just keep yeah, but you ain't gotta drive it. I know her, it's gonna drive her nuts too. Not if you don't tell her that that's a sound that shouldn't be there. You can definitely tell it's a sound that shouldn't be there. None of our other cars make that sound like do a lot of clunking and banging.
SPEAKER_03He's doing the future husband a solid.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03Say, yeah, it sounds funny. You should probably look at that. No, that's that's totally normal.
SPEAKER_01My dad says it's supposed to sound that way. You're dumbass. Now she probably wouldn't say that. She might. She might. No, we're gonna fix it for sure.
SPEAKER_00It is kind of annoying. It's not always there, though. Yeah, on the way home it was. Oh, it's constant now. It's constant now. Okay. You want me to cut that weld back out?
SPEAKER_01No, we'll just fix it.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01We'll just we'll just fix it.
SPEAKER_00We found a broken part and I welded it back in place.
SPEAKER_01I think it melted the bushing a little bit when it welded back in place. Well, the bushings were shot anyway. That might be why it's clanking.
SPEAKER_00Would you weld back in?
SPEAKER_01So, like the sway bar.
SPEAKER_00You know how they smash them down like like out on the end. Out on the end. It had like broke part of it away. That's pretty common on those.
SPEAKER_01It's welded back together. Put it back together. Super glued it.
SPEAKER_00Hot glue. Use the glue gun on it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's gonna be a nice little car for.
SPEAKER_00It would be a nice little car.
SPEAKER_02Is that still similar to the body style of Cameron's, or is that the newer body style?
SPEAKER_01About the same. It's just a little bit more square, isn't it? Yeah, it's a little more square than Cameron's is. Maybe a little.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or is Cameron's a little more square? I don't remember. What years is it has? 06? There's an 06, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why, but that kid loves that car. I think that they have a big back seat.
SPEAKER_03Around 2000, they're exactly the same. Is it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're the same.
SPEAKER_03Are they? I was thinking the taillights were different.
SPEAKER_01I mean, maybe the tail, but it looks it looks like that. What motor's in it? I don't know. It's got one. It goes. I don't really give two shits. Like it's like, I don't know. Put a key in it, starts, it drives, it stops pretty good. It probably needs pads.
SPEAKER_02If it's got the 3.4, I was gonna borrow your uh sensor and see if that fixes Cameron so that I can see the rapids most time now, right?
SPEAKER_00Don't even worry about it.
SPEAKER_02I can hear him complaining from Manchester. Can you?
SPEAKER_00Is he driving that much down there? So the O6 going to work.
SPEAKER_01Oh true. So that's one picture of an 06 Impala. That's what I kind of that's what she had before. She had that spotted sal before. And here's another pitch of a picture of an 06 Impala. That's Cameron's. That's what Cameron's body.
SPEAKER_02I think the one you just had up was uh That was an SS. That was But I think that was the previous one is 06 a split year?
SPEAKER_01Could be might be Chevy likes doing that. They do. Anyway, it's it'll be a nice little car for her. She takes her test on the tour. Perfect room for activities in the back. I'm gonna take the backseat out and put spikes in there. You ever see those things that prevent homeless people from sitting on benches? I'm gonna make them.
SPEAKER_02Uh that's actually to keep skateboarders from oh.
SPEAKER_00Oh it's sleeping on benches, not sitting on.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna do something to make the backseat inoperable.
SPEAKER_00You just want to weld the door shut?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and put us like a one of those police cars.
SPEAKER_00Police cars. Well, they used in palette is police cars.
SPEAKER_03The deck lids are pretty robust on those.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be a two-seater. Turn into a fucking El Camino.
SPEAKER_02Still got a hood.
SPEAKER_04Fuck you guys, I'll kill you all.
SPEAKER_01I figured you'd beat the living shit out of the first one. They're gonna warn the rest of them that her dad's a crazy bastard.
SPEAKER_00You're the one that keeps saying she's like her mother.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00So you brought it on yourself.
SPEAKER_01Kill motherfuckers.
SPEAKER_00You're on the main. Now there's evidence.
SPEAKER_01I don't care. Stay away from my little princess, or I will kill you.
SPEAKER_00I would love you.
SPEAKER_01I have friends, I have equipment, and I have alibis.
SPEAKER_00They're all the same people.
SPEAKER_02As good as that. I'm like, I think I think you just lumped all three people into every one of those. And now we're accomplices. And alibis, right? How the fuck you be an accomplice and an alibi?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Damn it. Court?
SPEAKER_01It's fine.
SPEAKER_00They're gonna put us in different they're gonna put us in different. I'm too pretty to go to jail.
SPEAKER_02You got pretty mouth.
SPEAKER_01Oh shit. It's getting deep in here. Getting deep.
SPEAKER_00What do you want to talk about?
SPEAKER_01I don't have anything to talk about.
SPEAKER_00No either.
SPEAKER_01We just rambled for like 40 minutes. I know we did. That's alright. What else? Everything else that happened to me this week. I can't talk about it on the main.
Jeep Top Off Storm Night And Garage Projects
SPEAKER_01We took the top and doors off the Jeep. Drove it around. That was fun.
SPEAKER_00That was the weirdest text I think I've ever sent you. Hey, do you need help? You want me to come over and help take Kelly's top off? Like yeah. No, that's not that's not right. Take the top off the Jeep.
SPEAKER_01I think that was exactly your text. When do you want me to come help take Kelly's top off? And then the next text of the Jeep. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That would have been perfect if you would have just replied back. Thanks for the offer, but I got that part. I'm good. He had sent it. But if you want to come help the Jeep top off.
SPEAKER_00He had already been talking about, hey, I think Kelly wants to take the top and doors off the Jeep and go down to get Kaitlin's car.
SPEAKER_01We went and had supper at the old. What do they call it now? Aunt Dharma's in Troy? That what it was? Yep, had a junk basket and a couple beers.
SPEAKER_00I took the Cannam for a cruise in the storm. The what? The Cannam. Canned ham. Canned ham. Oh, the canned ham.
SPEAKER_01How's the wiper work in that? Great. Does it? Better than any vehicle I got.
SPEAKER_00The funniest thing was I One of your vehicles doesn't even have wipers. You can't compare that. Two of them. Scout and the truck don't.
SPEAKER_01I looked at the looked at the radar and it's like, oh, there might be a sprinkle here in a little bit. I said to Chris, if you're not, I'm gonna take the top and stuff off the thunder, lightning, and you want to come help me lift it off, that'd be great. Shit hits the fan as soon as I say that, and it just downpours, trees fall down in town.
SPEAKER_02On Friday, yeah. I mean, it just That was crazy. Like the sun was shining at my house. Like we could hear, like Julian and I were watching TV. You could hear the thunder crashing and booming. But you look out the window, like it is just the most beautiful golden sky. Yeah, and for like five minutes, it like rained at my house. I don't even think I don't even poured here. I don't even think I saw a tree branch move. Oh, it poured at our house. But a mile away at Rick and Linda's, and I'm sure your guys' houses, like there's trees down and just pandelium everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's a tree on the slushy place. No, it wasn't. The tree fell over in front of the slushy place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it was on it part of it when I drove by. A little bit, not horrible. A couple little branches. Yeah. Yeah, the main tree.
SPEAKER_00I drove by right after it happened because we went from we left your place, went out to JV3s, got Abe and drove Abe back home. Okay. We came by there.
SPEAKER_01We left our house, and just there's still a couple sprinkles because it's raining still. I'm like, it's fine. The radar looks fine. We're just gonna keep on going. It'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00Was it a little chilly on the way home? Not too bad.
SPEAKER_01Last night was chilly on the way home. When we we took Kaylin to town and then made a couple laps around. Are you getting more confident in your daughter's skills? She's doing pretty good, yeah. I mean, I want to get the car fit. I wanted, it's not gonna all work out timing-wise, but I kind of wanted to get the car so I'd get it all fixed up so she could drive in that for a while and take her test in that. But I think we're just having her take the test in the Jeep because she's been driving that lately. So that's what she's most comfortable in. I'll put the top, I'll put the top and the doors and stuff back on, obviously. The DOT lady might frown upon jumping in a topless no-door vehicle to do a door test. Somebody in El Cater.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, probably. I'm sure they don't have a sense of humor. Probably not.
SPEAKER_03They make them check everything and horn and everything before the drive. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do the door slatch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I wonder what just to be an asshole, it'd kind of be funny just to take the Jeep totally naked like it is now and be like, here you go. She's ready to do her driving test. You'll have to wait another six months and have a better vehicle. Like, bitch, this vehicle's more than your vehicle is. Piss off. It'll run over your car. Unless she's on the direct jump.
SPEAKER_02Not yet. Not yet. I won't run over it yet. I mean, it might if you try hard enough to pull up on the hood. Because you hit it hard enough. Maybe. Maybe. Tires are still a little small for pretending like you're Bigfoot. We'll try it. You hit anything hard enough with enough velocity and right up on top of it. Yeah, crazy stuff happens.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. No, I'll probably put it all back together so she can take it.
SPEAKER_02So I thought last night I'm like put the camera in Julie's car. The rear the rear backup camera. Doing it. Pulled the inside cover off, you know, pulled the inside panel off. Like, what the fuck? It's like where the camera is, it's like this whole the steel's all bulged on. I'm like you gotta take the whole panel off the outside to get to it. So I snap the inside panel, I'll put the inside all back together, go back out there. I'm like, why the fuck isn't this thing coming off? So I get on the old Google box. There's fucking four nuts on studs from that panel that go through. You gotta take the fucking apartment again. I'm like, fuck it. I'm done. I'm not taking that thing back apart again tonight. So she still can't see when she backs up. So she still can't see when she backs up if she closes her eyes.
SPEAKER_01That's a bummer.
SPEAKER_02And then, you know, because her mirror is busted. I don't know if it's a murderer. The side mirror is busted. She wasn't paying attention, and you know, the pole behind the salon. Oops. She caught it. But so I all the busted shit. I pulled it all out. And I'm just waiting for the piece of glass to come in from a spare flex you can take apart off of. It's you know, it's really too bad that I didn't just be like, I'm gonna take those mirrors off before they throw that thing to stuff. But I went and looked, they're different, they're different, yeah. So then I felt less bad. Um but uh so it comes a side collision thing, you know, because the the sensor out there on the side that checked the radar.
SPEAKER_00Um she ignore the radar. I can't go through a drive-thru without these car going off.
SPEAKER_02But the radar is up in the front bumper, and she was backing around the pole.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it doesn't have one in the mirror.
SPEAKER_02Uh I've got the thing to tell you that there's someone in your blind spot, but it doesn't tell you there's a pole there, doesn't tell you there's a pole there, and the housing's okay. She just somehow she got it just close enough, she grabbed the mirror and rolled the mirror out. There was just a light scuff on it, but so now it's like side impact collision, you know, like on the Fords, how all the errors pop up on the screen, and then it's like you can't fucking clear them, it takes forever to I clear you cleared that. Did you mean to clear it? Yes, I mean to clear it. Yeah, but did you really mean to clear that? Because your side impact sensors aren't working anymore. Did you sure? Yes, I'm sure. Well, statistics say that people who don't have their side impact like get into are you sure you want it? Yes, I want it disabled. So I went and got the old light today, uh, or the old mirror, and I got a screwdriver, and I pried the sensor and the LED off of the uh the old mirror. I plugged it in, shoved it in behind the mirror. It's perfectly happy now.
SPEAKER_01Doesn't care anymore.
Selling A Parts Van And Buyer Nonsense
SPEAKER_01I see you got your van for sale, Chad. Yeah, parts van.
SPEAKER_03Parts van.
SPEAKER_01Any any interest?
SPEAKER_03Um had one guy tried to trade me a pop-up camper that looked pretty shitty.
SPEAKER_01No alligators, though, yet. Not yet. No. Alligators? Not alligators. What was that fucking lizard thing Caleb got offered that time?
SPEAKER_03Iguana or something.
SPEAKER_01No, it was like one of those big ones. Like a Komodo dragon lizard. Was it a real lizard? Yeah. Shut up. You you knew that. That was a long time ago. Someone tried trading him a pet lizard for his car.
SPEAKER_03Say one guy messenger's like, it says it needs trailered, but there's no other information. It's like, did you try clicking the see more button? And then I screenshot it and just set up everything.
SPEAKER_02Dumbass. That's usually I do the same thing, Chad. Like, I usually have the whole ad like screenshotted, and then sometimes if I really get I'll like highlight sections of it, and then I'll just send it to them, and then I never hear back. I'm like, oh, was that a little too salty for you? Not my fault, you can't fucking read.
SPEAKER_01Right. Just send them to the same asylum. Sure, come get it. Here's the address.
SPEAKER_02And I got that too. I'm like, you shouldn't drive it home. Well, can I? I don't give a shit. I'm just telling you I wouldn't. Well, like, how bad is it? I'm like, I told you the wheel shakes violently at 30. Well, yeah, but what's it do at 60? I don't know. I didn't get it going that fast.
SPEAKER_03I didn't try.
SPEAKER_02I didn't try. After 30, I decided to slow down. At 30, I'm like, that's pretty bad. I'm not going any faster. Well, so do you think I can make it home? Yeah. Fucking go for it. That's how I started telling them, like, yep, you can get home. You'll be fine. For sure. Yeah. 100%. You're gonna be good.
SPEAKER_03You might wear someone else's rear bumper, but you'll be good.
SPEAKER_02You'll be good.
SPEAKER_00It's like uh your problem give me the money.
SPEAKER_02I don't even have to leave your driveway. If they sign that title, then it's theirs. If you've got the money and they've signed the title, that motor could blow up in your driveway and it's not your problem.
SPEAKER_00It's usually easier if they leave your your property, though.
SPEAKER_02Oh agreed. 100%. I still tell my students about the the the truck your dad sold, and the kid made it from your dad's house out to Highway 20 and down highway 20 headed east and blew the motor up on it. And he's like, Yeah, I think I'd just like my money back. And your dad's like, I'm not giving you your money back, but I'll tow it home for you. It was it was one of those old, I think it was like a red Chevy halftime. Yeah, something I didn't want my money back.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nope.
SPEAKER_02I mean, and Jim was like, you test drove it, you do like it was you never know what you're getting. I I do feel bad for you, and since I feel bad for you, I'll tow it home for you. I think it was something like that. Jim will JB3 will correct me if I'm if I've got the story wildly wrong, but I I think that was basically the gist of it.
SPEAKER_00It's you bought it at it's as is, no warranty, implied or otherwise.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Ho for show.
SPEAKER_00I got I got nothing else, so I'm boring. Me too.
Acorns Squirrels Cats And Wrapping Up
SPEAKER_02Like I said I didn't do a whole lot other than collecting 90 gallons of fucking acorns today.
SPEAKER_00See, I just let them let them degree.
SPEAKER_02Right, but you don't have squirrels all over your roof and eating holes in your place. Take the food source away. That's why I'm that's why I'm that that's the biggest reason I pick up all the acorns. Maybe if you left the acorns, they'd eat the acorns in not your house.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I should poison the acorns. Could do that too. I mean, that probably's not very nice to do that. I don't give a shit.
SPEAKER_02I found one of those striped ground squirrels. Found one of them dead right outside my garage door. The side, the side walkthrough door, dead. I'm like, eh, I'll take care of that later. Left, came back. Apparently, one of the neighborhood stray cats got to it because it was gone.
SPEAKER_00Stray cats gotta eat tooth.
SPEAKER_02That's right, man. We've we've got some stray cat, and they look hungry all the time. I think that's honestly why I haven't seen very many squirrels around my house. I'm good about getting rid of them. As long as they're not shitting in my yard.
SPEAKER_03They shit small.
SPEAKER_02Cats are dumb. Agreed. Unless they're like big cats. Big cats are cool. But they're not pets, they're ones that you just admire in the wild. Right. I mean, honestly, like cats are one of the apex predators of the world.
SPEAKER_00Some of them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the ones that you admire from afar that live in the wild. Oh, heck.
SPEAKER_03Say, got my shop sort of kind of cleaned up enough where I could not feel embarrassed when people come over and want me to do stuff to bulkies, etc. etc. Yeah. So maybe I'll feel like getting out there and doing something.
SPEAKER_02You guys that made me felt like it had a dot dot dot after it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you got a lady that wants to come over and she wants to buy she wants to buy materials first. But at least the front entryway, anyways.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's kick her over. I think we're we may or may not have a Patreon. We're not sure. I don't know what we're gonna talk about.
SPEAKER_02Maybe we'll just finish the rest of the booze and go home.
SPEAKER_00I could just go to sleep. Court made me work today.
SPEAKER_01Which butt is it? We haven't done any work on a long time. I think it's this one.
