Shed Talk With Mud On Our Boots
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Rain doesn’t just make an off-road park messy, it changes the whole mindset. We’re recording from the “barn” at Myobi in Iowa after a soaked, muddy fundraiser weekend that still pulled in about 30 to 35 rigs, plus plenty of people we’d never met who showed up just to be part of it. The vibe is pure grassroots off-roading: the landowner unlocks the shed, points at the trails, asks us to keep mud off the road, and then we all figure it out together. If you like honest event recaps and real trail talk, this one is for you.
We also bring on a first-time off-roader to hear what the day felt like from the passenger seat: bumpy suspension, the steep hill moment where you’re sure you’re tipping, and the surprisingly practical stuff like airflow and staying dry. From there we bounce into the kind of garage conversation that happens when you wheel hard in bad weather: a rig running hot, a tea-kettle whistle at 225 degrees, and the quick realization that AFR and fan settings can make or break your day. We get into Holley Terminator style tuning, why richer AFR can cool things down, and the tradeoffs of radiator placement, brushless fans, and cab temps.
Along the way we hit trail safety reminders, visibility upgrades like a Wolfbox-style camera mirror, and the sketchy reality of unmarked crests hiding drop-offs in mine tailings terrain. We close with raffle stories, how we keep drawings fair, why the cause matters, and whether we’re coming back next year. Subscribe, share this with your wheeling group, and leave a review with your best rain-trail lesson or worst “we should back out” moment.

Cold Open And Unfiltered Banter
SPEAKER_06Did you have to explain the joke? He's never gonna hang out with us again, you know that, right? You don't tell your mom nothing. He'll be doing the toggle switch and fucking talking about cold water, and it's gonna be a bad deal, bud. Because we don't edit. You might want to edit this one. Just saying, the first two minutes you might not want to put out there.
SPEAKER_04Maybe I'll put part of it there. DJ, spin that shit. That's the wrong podcast.
SPEAKER_06Come on, lad.
SPEAKER_03Kick tires like the fires.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
Welcome To The Barn Studio
SPEAKER_03You didn't want to live all the way from uh third world country. Live.
SPEAKER_06Live from the barn at Myobi. Is this are we calling it the barn? It's barn.
SPEAKER_03Is it the check-in shed?
SPEAKER_06It's a shed. It's a chicken coop.
SPEAKER_03It could be a chicken coop. It could. Welcome to the chicken coop.
SPEAKER_06It's a garage. There's a motorcycle in it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's got yeah, it's got sweeter. It could be a donkey shed, too.
SPEAKER_06It could be a donkey shed.
SPEAKER_03You're gonna have to build one soon.
SPEAKER_06I'm hoping so.
Event Recap And Surprise Turnout
SPEAKER_03What are we doing down here? What did we do today?
SPEAKER_06Uh we got wet. We got muddy. That started yesterday. True that. No! This is why it's Warriors Women event. It was a blast. We've been hanging out. Got a lot of there were people that were here. I have no idea why they're here. They've obviously just seen all the posts because we didn't know what most of them.
SPEAKER_03There was a bunch.
SPEAKER_06The whole side-by-side group.
SPEAKER_03There's a bunch of those high-speed golf carts that didn't know any of them. I know there was a group of them that had called about wanting to come down. And you can you can come down and do Myobi if you get a hold of the landowner.
SPEAKER_06Oh, so they might have been here just.
SPEAKER_03And he well, no, he told me he told me yesterday that they had the here he goes, yeah, some guys called one about coming down. I told him, Well, there's an event. You can come down and and pay for the pay and be part of the event. So shout out to Dan, the owner, for I mean basically he rolled up yesterday, said, Hey, I'll unlock the shed or the barn here. And here's where this is, and the trails are down there, and the biggest thing is just try to keep as much mud off the road as you can. And I think we did that. And then I hit Alice and his daughter does a lot of the logistics for the events for that for my obey then. And she was telling me today, she was yeah, I called dad last night and said, Are you are you over there? Well, I stopped over. You're not there now? No. Well, do they need anything? He goes, they seem pretty self-sufficient. Self-sufficient? So we kind of are. But Allison said that too. She's like, it was nice. See the big the turnout, I think 30 or 35 rigs somewhere there. That's pretty nice.
SPEAKER_01For a rainy event for getting like two inches of rain.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Plus all they've gotten previous to this to today.
SPEAKER_06Honestly, though, that that dirt holds moisture well because it didn't get too slick.
SPEAKER_01It dries out pretty quick, honestly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it wasn't bad. It's it's got that clay to it that gets sticky. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So it's called rocks, ruts, and resilience, and it was very heavy on the ruts and resilience.
SPEAKER_04Yes. It's been changed to rain ruts and resilience.
SPEAKER_06There you go, Ricky. That's a good one. That definitely fits.
SPEAKER_03So maybe we should figure out who was here and then have Annie make an another sticker. I survived Rain's Rain, Ruts, and Resilience 2026.
SPEAKER_06That'd be a good sticker for us now.
SPEAKER_03Just have like a clump of mud on it.
SPEAKER_06I like my new t-shirt.
SPEAKER_03I like my new t-shirt. I got you're still wearing mine. I'm still wearing my got too wet.
SPEAKER_06I didn't pack well.
The New Shirt Story And Shipping Delay
SPEAKER_03Annie did uh did design up on Court's suggestion. A new t-shirt.
SPEAKER_06That was my idea.
SPEAKER_03And probably the easiest way to describe it is if you know the famous Johnny Cash billboard that was later made into a t-shirt of him flipping off the camera that he put a billboard up to the music industry in Nashville back in the 80s, somewhere in there. Um maybe 90s, I don't remember, but uh we have a very well-loved picture of Wyatt when he was sitting in the the Roadrunner in the shop, and I said, Hey, let me take a picture, and he was flipping me off because that was his way to say I love you. So Annie took that picture and then made it into a t-shirt. Well, it started off on our golf shirt sleeves. Yeah, we had him on the golf shirt sleeves.
SPEAKER_06And then I was like, that would be a kick-ass t-shirt. And then today, she handed me this t-shirt, and I'm like, perfect.
SPEAKER_03You had to attend the event as a fella to receive to get one, basically. So um, quick update. We haven't shipped any of the winners.
SPEAKER_06We are aware. We were reminded today. We've been getting ready for this. So um they will be coming soon. Life had some curveballs that I had to take care of on my end of things. So, I mean, yeah, we'll we'll get to your shit at some point. We promise. Chad, you did a we're a man of our word. You did uh adjust that properly. Properly adjusted, properly adjusted bottle of mountain dew. Did you mix it like Kaelin does? I don't know. I tried to teach Kaylin what a one-finger pour was, and then she is her idea is wherever you put your finger on the glass is where you pour to.
SPEAKER_03Heavy-handed is she? A little
A First-Timer Reviews Off-Roading
SPEAKER_03bit. So well, we've got a young feller in the corner that had never off-roaded before today, and he rode with two different fellows driving. Let's get his take on it. Adam, what was your thoughts on off-roading today and who'd you ride with when?
SPEAKER_00Uh, I thought it was pretty good riding with Court. Like the suspension was a little bit tough, so sometimes it was a little bit bumpy, but other than that, it was fine. And then riding with Chris, it was pretty good, other than that one really steep hill where I thought we were gonna tip over.
SPEAKER_03We had nowhere we could go.
SPEAKER_06Is that the one that we backed?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's the backed up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's the one that's what I told Jim. Like, the thing is we can't fall off anywhere. Like, just go forward, hammer on.
SPEAKER_03Did you uh did you buy the rental insurance?
SPEAKER_06That's I did not damage the Jeep this weekend. But it was signed out in your name. No, I recall you providing permission, essentially you signed it out. So you provided permission to Jamie 3.
SPEAKER_04You rented out the rental. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you rented out the rental. You sublet you because you were subletting it to me and you sublet it to Jim.
SPEAKER_03We can talk more about what happened there on the Patreon.
SPEAKER_06Yes, let's not tell the whole world about that.
SPEAKER_03I so you know, um it's five dollars a month. It doesn't cost much, it's less than your daily vice. But it was pointed out that how was it they put it? Well, not gonna name names, but five dollars a month you also get into your raffle. And you know, other ones you have to pay more. So um anything about changing ours?
SPEAKER_07I don't know about but you do your raffle monthly, they do it.
SPEAKER_06Whenever whenever. Whenever whenever they do it, we do it monthly, but we do it like eight at a time. Yeah, it's like, oh, we're behind.
SPEAKER_01So ship once a year.
SPEAKER_06If you're lucky, it's like Christmas. If someone was talking shit about not getting a shirt, and I'm like, well, you didn't follow the rules, and I don't know what t-shirt size you need.
SPEAKER_07You have it now. I have it now. I see.
SPEAKER_06I haven't checked them on vacation.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, and Andrew got the message. Oh, she got it?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she's like, Oh my god, uh, I have to add it to my my sheet. Is that good?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're we're organized. I have like sheets now. Yeah, we're not kind of. Are you just drinking a random water bottle? Oh, it's okay. You were you're a spitter.
SPEAKER_02So, Adam, would you go again? Yeah, I'd go again. What'd you think of it? It was good. You said that already. Yep. How sleep how sleeping in Dasaban in Jamal.
SPEAKER_00Um the airflow wasn't real great, but other than that, it was fine.
SPEAKER_03I thought you were gonna fire it up and let it idle. That's what I would have done.
SPEAKER_01With the uh exhaust being the way it is, I figured it was gonna dump into the cabs. Oh, yeah. Oh, you shouldn't want to die. That's probably a good idea.
SPEAKER_04Good idea. You would get a decall. Wake it up would be a problem. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But overall, like it's comfortable and I had I had thrown my clothes bag into the Whites Warriors trailer, which Chad pulled down with Das on.
SPEAKER_06And uh my clothes bag on to make sure it wasn't in the rain.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah, wet clothes suck.
SPEAKER_06Only got one pair left.
SPEAKER_03So uh I was at the door open there. I was finding what a shirt or something last night, and they were already gone to bed. All of a sudden the whole trailer started shaking. I'm like, what the heck with it? Oh, they're moving around in there. I thought we had an earthquake or something for a minute. But Dustin. Yes, sir. Are you compensating for something?
SPEAKER_05Is it the only chair left in that in the in the room?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. There's another one outside. But it's wet.
SPEAKER_03For once in his life, Dustin's the tallest one in the room. Take a picture of that. Everybody looking up to Dustin.
SPEAKER_06This is weird. Kelly, you can throw my backpack on the floor and sit in that chair. I'm all right. All right. I'm just saying, you don't have to you don't have to stand there and look at my bag. I mean, you can if you want to.
SPEAKER_03Just throwing out the door. It's not raining anymore. I think Kelly's only picked up on my joke. I picked up on it.
SPEAKER_06We're not on Patreon, sorry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, can happens. What are we talking about?
SPEAKER_06Uh I didn't have a plan, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER_03Do we ever?
SPEAKER_06Not usually.
SPEAKER_03I mean, we're in these comfy rocking chairs. I might just sleep right here. I might buy some of these for the studio.
SPEAKER_06But I'll have to hold my microphone then. Otherwise, I'd be like, player over here.
SPEAKER_03You got the boom it'd probably reach out.
SPEAKER_05But this chair kind of sucks.
SPEAKER_03You got the ejectoceto. Wait, can we do it? I can't get the Florida bounce. You won't feel at home. I don't know.
unknownDamn it.
SPEAKER_03He start buzzing his leg, we'll start rocking. So oh, these are comfy. Our our chairs are kind of gonna. You know. Although we we were um talking to I left my cigars in the truck and the girls left.
SPEAKER_06Damn it.
SPEAKER_03No, I took them out yesterday, remember?
SPEAKER_06Where do you put them?
SPEAKER_03In your green box, you said they would stay dry there. Perfect. So when we're done here, we can have a cigar on the porch. Nice. I was looking in here earlier. I told Andy I said, I Kelly and Andy were sitting here, and I'm like, looking around, and I'm like, I could live in here. And Andrew's like, no. I said, no, really. I said, get it spray foamed, car siding, make a little bathroom. You could get rid of that door there and make a little I just need like two chairs for you and me to sit there, rimming and sleep up on the floor.
SPEAKER_06A little fireplace in it.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03She didn't like that idea. So I don't know. I didn't say I was like, not like forever living it, but like take off for weekends.
SPEAKER_06You also never introduced who was in at the table.
Introductions And The Thumb Incident
SPEAKER_06What? We didn't introduce who was sitting at the table.
SPEAKER_03Well, I figure they heard the voices, but somebody's over there being quiet. So okay, then we we've heard his voice. Yeah. So, okay. Court, give proper introductions. We are only 15 minutes in. It happens.
SPEAKER_06We've got the YJ Godfather. Hello. Or Rico's Garage. Or Ricky. Or Rico. I mean, you can pick what you want to call him.
SPEAKER_03That's right. He's been called Worse Things by Better People.
SPEAKER_04True Death. Yeah, she's sitting right there.
SPEAKER_06She's the studio audience. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Who's next to him?
SPEAKER_06Then you got Dust Dan. Also known as. Dust Dan. Also known as what?
SPEAKER_05He got a new name. What's my new name?
SPEAKER_06Oh, I forgot what it is. I need to look.
SPEAKER_03The Timu Evening Barber. Oh yeah. I could not believe Andrew agreed to that. I can't either.
SPEAKER_06Halfway through that haircut, I was like, you fucked up.
SPEAKER_05She looked at me and said, okay. I'm like, whoa.
SPEAKER_01And then Chris promptly dumps a bunch of water in his head.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Definitely the wrong thing to do. Well, maybe, but it worked out.
SPEAKER_06In the end, it looks better than it started because in the end, it looks like shit.
SPEAKER_03I don't care. I had been campaigning to get buzz my hair down, anyways, because this hot. I wish, I wish we would have had this haircut. I would have had this haircut before Indiana. Might have been a little better.
SPEAKER_06Would have been cooler.
SPEAKER_03So, anyways.
SPEAKER_06I had my haircut. All around the table. We got Das Chad. Hello. And Mini Dash Chad. Hello. And Cody Trano. Hello. That's not his name on the chat. Oh. Nine and seven eighths. But we've changed the nine and fifteen sixteenths. Did somebody go change it? We need to change the nineteen. Because it's there's still fender or thumbnail on the.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's he didn't lose.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he didn't lose a whole eighth, just the sixteenth.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And then of course us.
SPEAKER_06So today I was taking pictures and I go, hey, Cody, flip me the bird. And he did. And he goes, hey, and he gives me the thumbs up. So I got one of those too.
SPEAKER_03So I'll transfer those off to Annie for the I tried one up in Cody today by accident.
SPEAKER_06I thought he took your whole damn thumb off.
SPEAKER_03Well, at least half of it I thought I might have, but that was a bad deal. It still kind of hurts.
SPEAKER_06It's probably not gonna be able to move it tomorrow.
SPEAKER_04Scout hood slamming down on your thumb is not a great so your thumb doesn't even slow down a scout hood. Apparently, not that heavy thing.
SPEAKER_03Woof. I'm just glad that it was where it was. It was already like that dent there that gave it some room, or I might have lost it.
SPEAKER_01It might have been a proper guillotine.
SPEAKER_06Might have. I thought for sure a guillotine chopped his thumb off.
SPEAKER_01See, when he pulled his thumb back and he was smiling, I figured it wasn't terrible.
SPEAKER_06I didn't see any blood squirting out of it.
SPEAKER_03I was smiling because it's like, oh, it's all there.
Scout Overheating And AFR Tuning
SPEAKER_03Well, that stupid thing. I so it did not stumble today like it did in Indiana. Um, but it was the first little run out, it was getting hot. Like it was hitting 220, 220, and then it started flashing yellow, and then like 227. It never went 230, but at like 225 to 6, it started whistling like a tea kettle. And I'm like, what? It never did that. And then we got back here and I was thinking about it. I'm like, yeah, one of the other guys that was here.
SPEAKER_06Don't start that. Right.
SPEAKER_01They could just get hours of us snoring. And I'll just post it. I want to find a train whistle next time that happens. You can open her up and get loud.
SPEAKER_03But uh Eric Conklin was here and he said, Hey, can you look at my sniper a minute? We were looking through checking this up, and then for whatever reason it clicked my head. I'm like, oh, he said, he goes, well, he goes, I added He goes, I I changed the AFR to make it run a little fatter. And he goes, That seemed to bring the temp down. I'm like, I went over and looked. My my AFR was set at like 14 and a half.
SPEAKER_04There's your problem.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, oh, that's a problem. So I bumped him, bumped him down to like 13 and it was staying cool. But it was smelling kind of fat, like too rich. So I was the whole time, I think I was making admers because half the time I was driving, I glance up and just moving the screen around, and I brought it back up. The temp would, you know, I'd I'd make it, I'd lean it out, the temp would come up. So I think I got it pretty well dialed in, maybe a tenth or two off yet. But by the time I got it where I think it's good, I had already heat stacked it so much that by the time we were coming back, it was whistling again.
SPEAKER_01But you you must not have made him too nervous because he turned down the opportunity to drive.
SPEAKER_06I know. Oh, you offered to let him drive it several times. You didn't want to drive it? No, no, Calen wanted to drive, and I'm like, honey, it's a little too sloppy this time. Let's let's find a different place to go to the Badlands or some other grab.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But I asked one time he goes, I said, you want to drive now? He goes, No, we'll end up down in the ditch. And as Court said earlier, he goes, You don't want to be in the ditch looking at the trail, you want to be on or you don't want to be in the scenery looking at the trail, you want to be on the trail looking at the scenery.
SPEAKER_02100%.
SPEAKER_03That that one when we were coming through the playground area, and I stopped and looked back, and you guys were coming down it as it was raining. Yeah, and the wheels were turned and it was just sliding straight. That's when I went to coding. Uh those Mickeys, I think I think we need to get out of here. They ain't swampers.
SPEAKER_06No. So the first time we went through that, this earlier in the day, when candles in the back, we came up over that hill. And you can't, it's like right in the roller coaster. You can't see anything, can't see anything, can't see anything. Tires drop over, she's like, I'm like, it's fine. It's fine.
SPEAKER_03When Ian was right, we were talking talking about everything. I said, you know, I wonder if I got one of those little uh cheap backup cameras from Walmart that go on your license plate and then mount it in my front grille, and then just have that little screen there. At least you then you could see what's right for you. Buy the wolf box. Yeah, because that yeah, let's put a wolf box in Scout.
SPEAKER_06Why not? It's only $350. You got front camera, rear camera, inside camera, so you can you can podcast from the scout. Oh, really? Videos podcast. Like you do like a video like uh vlog.
SPEAKER_03Who did that? Um God, what's the big guy from Diesel Power Products? They were doing that for a while, like they'd go out in Moab or somewhere, and they as they drive along, he'd put they'd podcast somebody.
SPEAKER_04I yeah, I I can't remember his name, but I don't I know what you're talking about.
Radiator Relocation And Camera Mirrors
SPEAKER_03But um well, the other thing we're talking about, Z and said when he moved the radiator from its stock location in the razor to behind the seat, uh the temp in cab temps went way down.
SPEAKER_06Really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Because the fan's blowing the heat out behind you?
SPEAKER_03Well, it's you're pulling the air, you're pulling the air through the radiator and blowing it out behind you. Whereas when it's out front, you're pulling the air through the radiator and it's blowing it back into the cab. So I kind of was thinking about, well, if I found a bigger radiator, like maybe out of like a Chevy truck or something, and just ran some hard line back and then the neo get some the neoprene boots and put it behind the cab, and then I'm like, well, I'm gonna lose my rear view. Because I'd like to be able to look to make sure whoever's behind me goes, get one of them rear view mirrors that's a camera.
SPEAKER_06That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_03Get the wolf box, that's not a bad idea. I don't know what a wolf box is, honestly. Is that like a is that one of them JK things you JK people have?
SPEAKER_06Well, I learned about it first from Crawler Off-Road because he was selling them or thinking about selling them. Okay, and then Great American Crawl, they've got them in all their vehicles.
SPEAKER_04Okay. So that's kind of where I I thought a wolf box was a sleeper on a semi-truck.
SPEAKER_07That's that's exactly what I was doing.
SPEAKER_04Depends what genre area or whatever you're from.
SPEAKER_07I'm pretty sure it's called a wolf box. Yeah, you're right. Isn't it? Snail Trail was doing a quick thing this month for that. So they're neat.
SPEAKER_06How big of a screen is it? It's a rear camera, a rear view mirror. Okay. And it's you can have three different images on it at once, huh? You can select which ones you want. They're coming out with a four.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're gonna four camera systems. So you have four corners or whatever.
SPEAKER_06360 view. Maybe 360 views.
SPEAKER_03It'll be a little bit more. Well, that make the three butt the three channel ones cheaper? I'm hoping. Because I'd like to. I mean, if I had two angles out the back and just the one out the front, I'd be fine.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Well, the the on the three, one of them is in the actual mirror. Okay. I mean, it's like it's the front facing screen so you can record while you drive. They do like a lot of truck drivers put them in in case like idiots break check them and they smoke them. It's like, hey, I have proof that I need.
SPEAKER_03The only thing the other thing that's handy that um makes me pause about going to the rear uh radiator is uh what I do have a piece of plexiglass to put in that back window of the cab. If I did that, then it ain't gonna draw air through it.
SPEAKER_06And then having a cab today was a bone. See. Agreed. Agreed.
SPEAKER_03But then I thought, well, maybe I could make it so summertime I or summertime I could pull that window out, and then if it's cooler weather wheeling, yeah, pull it put it back in. But I don't do that much snow wheeling.
SPEAKER_05So where are you gonna put the radiator at though?
SPEAKER_03Mount it in between the the bed roll cage and the fuel cell. Maybe on the cab. You don't have much space there though. There's a little bit.
SPEAKER_06That's what he'd block his window.
SPEAKER_03Natural rear view, so I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I'm definitely not putting a spare tire on the would it be too much like fan noise in your ear?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. It might be. That's a good point, Chad. Yeah. So it take it out again, drive around home, whatever, and see what the what the temp does if it settles back down and it's not claming. There's no need to change it.
SPEAKER_04What I would do if you're gonna do that, since you got the the Holly Terminator, yeah, is put the brushless fans on it and run them through your terminator. Yeah. So they're not running high speed all the time. Yeah, when they need to be. Yep. Then you're not listening to that fan screaming behind you.
SPEAKER_03That's true. But like the fan on the front now is on the terminator. But that was the other thing I found is when I totally reset the whole programming to start over and then was got the IAC straightened out, it had the fan was kicking on, but wasn't kicking on until almost 200 degrees. Like 195, 200. I always have it kick on about 180 just to try to keep ahead of it because and I think a lot of it is is the terminator tune is set up for a vehicle that's gonna be out on the road. And because you know, you had it cruise was idle was at like 1450 and cruise was at like 13 or something like that. And I was like that's part of the problem right there.
SPEAKER_04So with the brush with the brushless fan on that terminator, you can have it towards a low speed. Low speed and then like 180, and then it comes up to 200, it ramps up.
SPEAKER_03Sure. Maybe I just put a brushless on it. Even even leave it where it is, because or maybe find a little bit better radiator. I mean that is an aluminum swap radiator, but it's like a universal swap radiator. They don't make a direct one for a scout with a JK frame. I wonder if like a aluminum one for like an XJ. Because those are a little wider.
SPEAKER_04That's what Jerry's got on the back of his buggy. Yeah.
Build Tweaks And Comfort On Trail
SPEAKER_04Pretty hot LS.
SPEAKER_06Any changes to your build you've thought of? Um No, because I don't I don't think the Reynolds Jeep is close enough to what my Jeep build's gonna be to make comparisons. I might just in in seeing other rigs out and I'm not having a square tire in the back.
SPEAKER_03I thought you were gonna take this one off.
SPEAKER_06I never did I never forgot. Oh, I just got lazy and didn't do it. That thing's fucking heavy. I didn't want to take it off too much.
SPEAKER_03Well, that we we got bit we got busy trying to make a trailer work.
SPEAKER_06Yep. That was that was an adventure. Otherwise, no, I mean, I think I I want the aluminum roof for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Because just like out here, if you wouldn't have had something, I mean I'm sure Ricky and like all the tree limbs, weren't they just banging you on like the whole time? Yep.
SPEAKER_05So it really wasn't that bad in your Jeep sitting in the pasture feet.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's because you're under them.
SPEAKER_04They just pass over your head.
SPEAKER_01I I had one whip me in the ear hole that hurt a little bit. Yeah, I didn't know.
SPEAKER_04Right in the ear hole.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Um I the doors were nice because we didn't take the doors off today because it was wet and shitty, and I'm like, we're not gonna be wheeling that much or that hard. I'm leaving the doors on it.
SPEAKER_05When it was raining really hard, rolling the windows up was nice. Yeah, I'll bet. Well, I will say I'm really glad I decided to ride a Cody this last go-round, other than Ricky.
SPEAKER_06I'm thinking maybe an air conditioner would be cool.
SPEAKER_03I'm thinking air conditioner.
SPEAKER_06Maybe the cab just so it just blows nice and wet air on me.
SPEAKER_03I want one of those like I got on I'm putting in the 50 for the scout.
SPEAKER_06Otherwise, yeah, I'm just I'm excited to get mine just going just to see how it's gonna work.
SPEAKER_03Next summer is going to be less building, more wheeling.
SPEAKER_06We've said that for how many years have we been recording the podcast?
SPEAKER_03He and I sat on the front porch and talked about it today, too. He he said the same thing. He says, We need to get out and enjoy this crap more than just building it all time. And Catherine said there, she started giggling, she goes, Well, you gotta not get bored with it. That's true.
SPEAKER_05Ian actually has to work on his shit to get get out there.
SPEAKER_03He actually so with his job changing that, he said, actually, this week was the first last week was the first week where he was like, Okay, I gotta get this done. I gave myself a go with going to this. And he goes, and it wasn't bad. He goes, I made a list, I just started checking things off as I worked through them. He goes, and it wasn't that bad. He goes, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be with his new schedule and the hour or 45-minute drive to work. And so I asked him as we were kind of that when he was riding with me, we were coming back towards up here. Maybe we're already pulled back in up here. I said, So I said, You you ready to go work in the samurai? He goes, Yeah. Oh, we were down there, we had stopped at the end.
SPEAKER_06He didn't even take that thing off the he took off the trailer and drove it up to the shed.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he drove it up here. Well, he had it sent back there. I said, pull that thing up here. That thing, the rate hit their you know, their race racer. And there's a lot of people make comments about how cool it was, but two times.
SPEAKER_06Another one in there?
SPEAKER_01Halfway there.
SPEAKER_06There you go.
SPEAKER_01There it was. What what one more you'll achieve climax?
SPEAKER_05I have another one.
SPEAKER_04You must be allergic to air conditioning.
SPEAKER_05I think it's your bullshit.
SPEAKER_04You had sneezing pet last night and I felt bad to turn the air conditioner down. I wouldn't have.
SPEAKER_06But so yeah, he said Cody needs to talk. What was your what is your what was your take on the weekend?
Trail Navigation And Risky Obstacles
SPEAKER_07Uh like says what, but there's actually traction.
SPEAKER_03I was surprised how much I was surprised when we got down to the there was traction.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. I mean, we went around three different times and touched only the same spot a couple times, but you know, we were able to make some stuff and clear path. When you make the 36-inch tire lead the 40s, it kind of gets interesting.
SPEAKER_01Well, it never ceases to amaze me how much that thing will get through. I've seen it two or three times now. I was like, holy shit. I think it's a billy goat, it goes anywhere you want.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh. That's why we call it the heartbreaker.
SPEAKER_05Or ego buster. Eagle buster is what we call it. Until you get to a point where Cody looks at his door, he's like, oh shit. And had that sound in his voice. I'm like, oh, oh no, this is not good.
SPEAKER_03I said, I said another, I'm like, Dustin's out.
SPEAKER_06You guys started backing up, and Jim had a sigh of relief.
SPEAKER_03And I had I bet. And I started watching, I'm like, I'm like, are we backing up?
SPEAKER_05And Cody's like, uh Yeah, I heard the tone in Cody's voice. I'm just like, oh, oh, this is not good.
SPEAKER_07Well, what'd you find, Cody? Well, like like everything, you go up a tailings pile that you can't see the other side of. So it gets interesting. And we crested the hill, and I found about a nine to ten foot sheer drop-off with standing water in the bottom of it. So I have a pretty good feeling if we went over that hedge, we would have been laying upside down.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Who knows how deep it was?
SPEAKER_06And the shitty part is if you don't know this place, it looks like every other one that you drive up and know down. Like there needs to be a sign, uh, drop off. Especially now that it's got multiple tracks up it, people are like, oh, there's another trail.
SPEAKER_07Or finding the bottomless mud holes that turn to quicksand really fast.
SPEAKER_05And up to that point, I was I was riding with Cody, and I'm like, all right, well, this guy knows what the fuck he's doing. You know, I'm just we're fine.
SPEAKER_03We're you're happy to be in the PP. Yeah, I'm happy being all of us here. He's he's been here the most recently before today.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'm like, I'm happy being pulling a court, just being a passenger princess. But as soon as we hit that point, Cody's like, oh no. I'm like, oh god. No, we're in a bad situation.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, when you pull up to a hill and Dustin's over there reaching for the harnesses, and I'm still sitting here in the laptop.
SPEAKER_05That was just waiting for you. That was that was funny. We were sitting there. Cody's like, Are you ready for this?
SPEAKER_03I'm like, let me put it to the shoulder of Cody's sitting there sideways on the trail to go up this hill, and I look over. I'm sitting there watching, I'm like, he's eyeing that up. I can't quite see all of it. And then Cody looks at me and grins, and then he kind of points over at dust, and I kind of look around Cody. I'm like, Dustin strapping in. Like is that the one where you went up over the tried to go over the log that was down across there?
SPEAKER_07No, that was that was the one you guys had your little incident. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Jim said that he's like, nope. He's like, Does he know who he's following? And I'm like, Yeah. You follow either one of those two. You you just gotta deal with it. It sucks sometimes, yes.
SPEAKER_05Well, the thing is, if you know Cody and you've seen him wheel, and he's like, I think I'm gonna try this. I'm like, Oh, well, you know, we're putting we're putting his shoulder belts off.
SPEAKER_03So he went on, you know, he goes up and I'm watching him carry the tire, carry the tire, and I I pulled up at the bottom, didn't even turn towards it. I just look at Adam and I go, we going up it?
SPEAKER_01Well, I said, yeah, it's your call. Why not?
SPEAKER_08Why not?
SPEAKER_01Okay, and then you get lined up and he turns his head and looks at me. It's like, what am I doing?
SPEAKER_03Holding on, but he was calm, cool, and collected until we're at we're at the top. And when you're climbing, I'll sit there and have my right hand on the front winch button because I use it as a suck down winch. So if I feel like I need it, I'll suck it in or I'll let it back out. Well, I was letting it back out, and I keep he didn't know it, but I keep watching the left front tire just keep hanging there.
SPEAKER_01You were pr pretty much going up with three wheels. Feel football.
SPEAKER_03And I had it, I this kind of mud that you get lined up, I just lock it in and go. And I'm just I'm not trying to go fast, I'm just trying to and I feel it, and you could if you couldn't see that tire, you didn't know it was floating. It just it just felt like it was going up at an angle. And then we get right towards the top, and I I stopped because Dustin and Cody had popped over the hill to Adam's side, and by that time we were leaning pretty good towards Adam's side. And I just sat there a minute and we were stopped, and completely stable. There's nowhere you can go. You're in you're in this ravine.
SPEAKER_06He says that, but he tipped me over once. I warned Adam about that as we went in.
SPEAKER_03But uh he uh I look over at him, he's got his hands crossed, holding the harness, and he's just kind of got this big eyes look like I don't want to say anything. I'm not gonna say anything.
SPEAKER_06I'm not pussing out, but and well I told them earlier in the day when they were with me, I'm like, if if it's if gets shit gets shitty, don't put your hands any just cross your arms and hold on. Because if you put your arm out already, like no, that's true. On that situation, Kaylin started to put her hand out, and I'm like, and she's like, and then she goes, nope, I pulled her hand in.
SPEAKER_05It's the quickest way to break an arm.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_02And it's and it's instinct.
SPEAKER_03And in the network, and it really is.
SPEAKER_05I was doing that with Ricky today. Like, he he doesn't have anywhere to really hold on to in his rig, but complains. She's got something to hold on to. Rick, he Ricky told me I could hold on to him. Like, we're not that good buddies, but I mean I got a safety handle here for you.
SPEAKER_01There's a handle up on the dash, but it's too far for you.
SPEAKER_05But it really is instinct, like but Kelly can reach it. As long as I've been doing this, it's if the thing does lean over, you just want to stick your hand out. I mean, it or grab that roll cage.
SPEAKER_06Yes, both bad situations.
SPEAKER_05Either one, you just don't do it.
SPEAKER_03At the same time, I'm looking at Adam, I hear Cody above me, and Cody, if Cody doesn't tell you to do something unless he knows it's gonna be what you need to do. And you just go, he goes, steer to the right a little bit. And I just went about eighth of turn, left the left sits down, we bounced, we we leveled right out and just drove on to the flat, you know. And uh the look of relief we pull up and stop, I'm like, should go watch the other guys? He's like that time I hear Ricky coming, I'm like it was fun.
Headlights Gear Tips And Rain Mistakes
SPEAKER_03I think uh we should find out where Ricky got his headlights and get you some like that.
SPEAKER_06The green ones?
SPEAKER_03And I I'm gonna have to find some too. Maybe I might have to go around, but it's really handy when you look back. You may not be able to see the whole rig or not, but you can see those green lights through the through whatever. You know he's back there.
SPEAKER_05Those are some mall crawler lights. Yeah. Court definitely needs them because he's gonna have ducks on it. With his angry girl, right? Yeah, angry girl. What do you call his uh his stinger on the front?
SPEAKER_06I I just you can't say that on this episode.
SPEAKER_05Queer spear?
SPEAKER_06Queer spear. Okay. That's what you call it.
SPEAKER_04I just so happen to have another set that I will donate to your Moco project. If you can live with green. Because when I bought them off Amazon, they said they were one per box, so I ordered two. And I got four. Green's his favorite color.
SPEAKER_06The Jeep's green.
SPEAKER_04I will donate a set to your project.
SPEAKER_06That means you've got to figure out about square headlights on the JK.
SPEAKER_03We already are, remember? Now that you let that bag cat out of the bag.
SPEAKER_06We talked about that a million times.
SPEAKER_04So no and you can get him with a red ring, too, because that's Kelly's JK.
SPEAKER_05Red set. I need orange. Ricky, is your wife scared of the dark? No. I'm trying to get her to go get me more beer and she won't do it.
SPEAKER_07Does he need beer?
SPEAKER_05Four more is what I want. I mean, I just go in that way.
SPEAKER_04Get a garage beer at Arku.
SPEAKER_05You know what? Tell you what, just go ahead and grab a set. You look like a woman that can go get beer out of the pool.
SPEAKER_03Kelly. Kelly, we still have nothing if you smother him tonight.
SPEAKER_06Dustin's not sleeping in the camera tonight. Dustin's sleeping in the back seat of his pick-up.
SPEAKER_03Or he might be.
SPEAKER_04He's gonna hold a pillow over his face after she farts on him. Dustin's looking at the pink guy.
SPEAKER_06That's definitely how you get pink on. Man. I'm sorry. You're lucky that you said that's the recurrect Kelly. I can tell you that much.
SPEAKER_05If I would have said that to your wife, I'd be dead.
SPEAKER_06You'd be laying on the floor right now.
SPEAKER_05I wouldn't be saying this sentence right now. Yeah, you'd be laying on the floor behind Chad. Second as I'm going, Mama, Mama.
SPEAKER_06She would have knocked your ass out. Can you imagine? Can you see Kelly's face? Like if she was that oh, that would have been hilarious.
SPEAKER_05I wouldn't be able to see her face.
SPEAKER_06No, he'd be laying the floor. Knock the fuck out. She'd probably devo your ass. She'd be like, Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Then the doctor would kick in, she'd resuscitate him. Yeah, probably.
SPEAKER_01And then knock him out again.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I just broke this chair.
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, you did.
SPEAKER_06Breaking you by it.
SPEAKER_04Little little tech tip today that me and Chad found out. Um if you're in a topless rig and it starts raining, it's not a good idea to have two people that both wear glasses instead of bow.
SPEAKER_06Redabat got you. He got me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you definitely don't want glasses in a to both guys with glasses, because I I look over at him, my glasses are all thogged up. I'm like, I can't see shit. And he looks at me, I'm like, oh no, you can't either.
SPEAKER_01So I forgot my hat, so I was totally helpless against the rain.
SPEAKER_03I did have a thought of a question I wanted to ask Chad.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03So you've ridden in two of Ricky's rigs.
SPEAKER_01Which one's cooler? Oh.
SPEAKER_03Which one's more fun to ride in?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I I kind of like the buggy. On a nice day, that would be the the optimal way to go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04In clement weather, not so much.
SPEAKER_03Open it for them and spit in it. Open it for him.
SPEAKER_04Thank you, beautiful.
SPEAKER_08You're welcome. You're welcome. Thank you.
SPEAKER_06That was some of the funniest shit I've ever heard in a while. I still can't believe we didn't have a couple of things.
SPEAKER_03They didn't even have to pay $5 for it.
SPEAKER_06Nope, that was free.
SPEAKER_03Where are we at?
SPEAKER_01Almost if we use the uh microphone ASMR. We don't have our stands.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we don't stand, so we're all whole. What other rig of rickies did you write in?
SPEAKER_01Uh he's got his uh common swap square body.
SPEAKER_05Common swapped swapped square body.
SPEAKER_03Say that four times faster. Not here.
SPEAKER_05I can barely say my own name. We know. He couldn't even touch the floor in the Jeep earlier.
SPEAKER_07What's that? Said he couldn't even touch the floor in the Jeep.
SPEAKER_05He was waking up with the speed. Yeah, like I literally, in Cody's Jeep and Ricky's Jeep, I can swing my legs. It's a YJ thing. And I sit in those, I'm like, I feel like I'm so high up, and I get in my Toyota. I'm just like, I'm down on the floor, and I get in these. I'm like, oh hey, I'm a little kid. Feet room.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, for both of his rigs, they just need optimal conditions. Yes.
SPEAKER_03And hot is not one of them.
SPEAKER_05And what's funny is like Ricky and I are the same height, but when I get in Ricky's Jeep, like I toes stretch all the way out. I can't even touch the pedals. I don't get it.
SPEAKER_04You have like a 26-inch inseam, though.
SPEAKER_05Your legs are very short. You're giving him six inches? 32-inch inseam. No way. I'm dead. Not possible. No way. 32 inches.
SPEAKER_03Well, he he wears them like you know, people from northern Illinois, so.
SPEAKER_08You pull them up to your nipples?
SPEAKER_05You know what, guys? I'm just gonna go to bed.
SPEAKER_03It's always good when you're on.
SPEAKER_06You know, it's funny though. When you were like I think if people like that didn't know us sitting around, like, why did those guys hang out with each other? Why have we flipped a lot of shit in the last couple days?
SPEAKER_03Why why do they hate that special needs kid so much?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's like I've got so many buddies that I absolutely love, and I would do anything for than you hear us talk. They're like, wow, they really hate him.
SPEAKER_03It was great to think.
Raffle Wins And Keeping It Fair
SPEAKER_03He wins the item that we all wanted to win.
SPEAKER_06I spent a lot of money on.
SPEAKER_03And he wins it, sends a message to the guy that donated it that hey, I won. And he goes, damn, I forgot to tell Chris that Dustin's can't win. I'm texting him now. I got a text. Tell Dustin you revoked it.
SPEAKER_05It was uh, oh, I forgot they didn't read the fine print and said people named Dustin Speakman can't win. Yeah. Which I was really after, I was really won the winch, is what I wanted.
SPEAKER_06Tell me about it. I put a shitload of tickets in both of those boxes. And the guy that I didn't turn out too bad though on the day, no, you didn't.
SPEAKER_05You did pretty good. And who is the dude that was camping next to us in the white Rubicon?
SPEAKER_03Brian?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's a listener. How much shit did he win?
SPEAKER_03He won two or three times, three times.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Three for sure, maybe four.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he won the mob armor.
SPEAKER_06He won the voices won the most.
SPEAKER_03They won four of the five uh or four of the six Rough Country Complete Off-Road. Complete off-road rough country didn't give anything. Complete off-road gift certificates, and then uh Cody's uncle won the other two. Yep. And in there for like four of them, it was Catherine drew Pat's name, Pat drew Catherine's name.
SPEAKER_06Because the way we did it, because we we didn't want people to think that it was raped. So we basically had our stranger pulled the first one, the person that won pulled to the next person, and it just went around in a circle like that.
SPEAKER_05Um what was it that you won twice?
SPEAKER_06Uh three times. I gave two of them back.
SPEAKER_05We bought one every discount code for the couple of times. Yeah, three times. And I'm holding the cards. I'm like, this it's no joke. It says court, cork, court.
SPEAKER_06Well, okay, to be fair. To be fair, to be fair, I told Kelly, I'm like, I want seventy tickets. I heard you say I go put half of them in. The winch and half of them in the build code. And then I was like, wait, I should probably spread my love a little bit. So I dropped five here, five here, five here, five here. And the places I dropped five, I won. And the places I dropped 30, I dropped one for the one, but that was going after. Yeah, not the one you wanted, but one time I gave the one back. I'm like, pull a different name. Three times, four times in a row was like mine.
SPEAKER_03And then I pulled my mom's name.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I think I put like one or two in the IH Parts America deal. Yeah. And then did you win that one? Yeah. I got that. And then they're like, I don't know who drew. Was it you that drew my name? Yeah. Yeah. I'm just like, there's no fucking way I won. Oh, so you just told everybody.
SPEAKER_03They knew.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I mean, they're gonna know before this comes out. It was it was a it was a fun day. It was definitely not. I think a lot of the strangers were looking around like, what the hell? But it's like the amount of money that we dumped.
SPEAKER_03Well, and we were pretty, we were pretty open and honest. Because you at one point you said, I put 35 tickets in there.
SPEAKER_05Well, the guy's like, huh? Well, how many ice cream buckets were on that? Three ice cream buckets full of tickets for winning.
SPEAKER_03And then the guy that won it didn't even unload his Jeep today. Because it was too muddy. It was too muddy. And I had to pull him out with uh multiple. I felt like Rory today. You did. You I was like doing tomato shit today. What do we think? I think I put like hell, Barbara. What is over there?
SPEAKER_06Oh, it's a frog's tree frog on the window.
SPEAKER_05I think I put 15 or 20 tickets in on that winch.
SPEAKER_06Yes, and I put 35 on the window or 30 on the winch.
SPEAKER_05I don't I put I think one or two for the IH parts marker thing and then everything else.
SPEAKER_06It was for a good cause. I told Tyler. It's a good cause, and I want enough stuff back. I got my money back.
SPEAKER_05Right. Yeah. You know, and and like I told Ricky and everybody else, like I don't give a flying crap if I win anything. That's where I was. I know where my money's going. Right. Right. Right.
SPEAKER_03So the guy that was in the old the tubed out flat fender with on cut boggers, he walked in the door, signed the waiver, threw 40 bucks on the table, and said, it's it's just 20 for the rig. You went to pick it, nope, good cause, walked out the door. And I wasn't gonna argue with him because he he had a 1911 on his side. I'm like, this guy's awesome. I talked to him a little bit. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. He looked familiar, like I'd seen him.
SPEAKER_06So the guy in the blue buggy that won the one the medium shirt that wasn't the guy that's like for me. Yeah. Uh they're buddies and they take turns. One of these every time I come out, one of us has to pull the other one out from the bottom because we break it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_07So I think they left on their own power, didn't they? Yeah, they did. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They follow, they were following me around for a while until I had I was doubling back for to find Court because I thought Court was ahead of me.
SPEAKER_06They're like, hey, let's go wheeling. So I'm waiting for Kelly or for Kaelin to get going, and we we take off, and we see Chris go down the hill. And what the fuck was that? Something bit me in the back of the head.
SPEAKER_03It was a moth. It was a moth that landed on you. It didn't bite.
SPEAKER_06It felt like it bit me. Anyway, so we go down the hill. And I see Chris turn a corner, and there's there's three different ways to go. I'm like, which way do we go? And we went the wrong way. So we kind of bombed around and we finished all the trails. We were like, ooh, we shouldn't try that one. We went on every one of them after we met up with you guys, but it's like I wasn't comfortable by myself. Sure. I don't know where I'm at, and that one looks like we could get stuck.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's the way Dustin and I were the first time
Getting Lost Without Phones
SPEAKER_04we went.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we we took off, and I just literally just sat down and and dipshit here looks at me like we shouldn't call you dipshit, Ricky. He's like, hey, let's go try to find Cody. I'm like, I just Yeah, his wife went and got you beer, man. I mean, and she didn't punch in the mouth.
SPEAKER_03I and he offered you a safety handle.
SPEAKER_05I love his wife to death. She's a sweetheart. He's like, let's go try to find Cody. I'm like, all right, let's go. So I'm not gonna take my phone because I don't want to, it's raining, it's muddy. He's like, I'm not either. So we just take off. We've never been to this park, we're by ourselves, we have no cell phones.
SPEAKER_06I'm like, what have you done 10 years or 20 years ago?
SPEAKER_03Right? Yeah, went with no cell phone, and then well, Dustin would have been in diapers, so right.
SPEAKER_05I'm 41.
SPEAKER_04I probably had a bag of phone 20 years ago.
SPEAKER_05But on the way back, I'm like, well, we got three brain cells and they're both fighting for second place. You know, I don't know what the fuck you want. I don't know what to expect. We made it back. We did, yeah, we made it back. I'm like, hey, I remember that tree. Let's go.
SPEAKER_06The trails aren't marked well.
SPEAKER_03If you don't know where you're if you don't know where you're there's a few signs, but it's a private owned ground that he's let people come. I'll live with poor Mark. You know, it's not like you're paying, it's not like you're paying what's Badland's own $50. $25 per person, right here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Plus the rig fee, isn't it? Is it already M fee? Or just $20.
SPEAKER_04Everybody's $25, but you're driving, passenger, anything.
SPEAKER_05Or if you just hop in with Cody and you're just like, I can't see shit out of the fucking windshield. I got a beer in my hand. I don't give a fuck.
SPEAKER_03And I mean, we were $20 a rig, and they're like, per person? Nope. Rig. Don't care how many people you're piling it. Just everybody's gonna sign the waiver. So I it was never signed the waiver. Uh we have to do that before we leave, actually. No, actually, you did sign it. I saw your name on there. Okay, perfect. So I made sure that we all signed it. You don't remember signing? You were a little out of it this morning. I was. I I had I did have to, you know. When when Dusty's I was out of bed before you were. I was awake.
SPEAKER_05I'm pretty sure Andy woke you both up at the same time. Yes.
SPEAKER_06No, they pulled in, I'm like, that's my truck. I can I can hear it. I heard your truck. I'm like, okay.
SPEAKER_05I was up, and here comes Andy smacking on each. Hey princess, get up. Time to work.
SPEAKER_04There's some pretty gnarly buggy lines, for lack of a better word, out here that would be a lot of fun when it was dry. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, some of them guys that come here regularly said it's better when it is a little bit wet. So it's tacky. Yeah, so it's tacky. You're not dealing with the dust and everything.
SPEAKER_07And yeah, the when we were here two years ago, it was dry, dry, and it's like sand on concrete. It doesn't, it wants to just slide out from underneath your tires.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. When I was riding with you, I couldn't see shit out of the window.
Mine-Tailings History And Gravedigger Connection
SPEAKER_03So I'm just like, Cardi just I found an interesting fact that I didn't realize is that there's probably a really good chance that my great grandfather on my mom's side mined here. This is all mine tailings and he was from the Oscaloosa area. That's where my grandpa or maybe my grandma's dad, um, where they grew up was down here and and he worked the mines. So um because that's why dad would kept trying to get mom to go out so she could see you know the the she dad's been down here with me before. Mom had never had. I think she would have been very nervous.
SPEAKER_05How is it that you know, like, or or like that? Like, remember that when I was at Monster Jam, you're like, well, who's driving Grape Digger? And I told you the name, he's like, Oh, I know him. I'm like, his dad was here today. Hey, do you know the Dustin? You know his dad was here today? The dad and the red GK. The red JK? Oh, that was his dad? That's his dad.
SPEAKER_03It was like, how in the like and actually we were sitting there, he coming, I've known Chris forever, and you know, and like his son Tyler, Tyler Maninga that runs the Gravedigger. I was wheeling down here with Tyler when Tyler was like 12, 13 years old. Yeah, he's been had built his own rig. And you know, Chris and I were talking about that, but you know, that's how I met Brian and Chris, and and really having come down here and wheeled with them and met them is how I knew to get a hold of Allison and get this event to start. And I I was telling him and Brian were sitting here talking today. And um, but Tyler lives here. He lives in Austin, in the area.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, which and I did find out that he is the only what is um the dude that Anderson? Anderson, yeah. He's he is the only non-Anderson to ever drive a graveyard.
SPEAKER_03Not true, there's there's one other one.
SPEAKER_05Is there? Yep. Because they that's what they said there at when we was in Indy.
SPEAKER_03Yep, because I was talking to well, and he's I know he's not, I don't know if the other guy, the other guy that's doesn't have the Anderson last name might be relative. I know that Tyler's the only one not family.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he look he's like the only non-family member to ever drive Gravedigger. But but I did also find out that Monster Jam owns Gravedigger now.
SPEAKER_03Well, Dennis Anderson owns part of Monster Jam. Yeah, yeah. I mean it is so it's it's however you look at it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it it's all so when you look at it, it's all like WWE racing.
SPEAKER_03Do you know how well it's not like WWE because they don't know who's gonna win, it's legit racing.
SPEAKER_04But if you according to Heavy D, Gravedigger always wins. Yeah. Well, he was told that when it's because it's Gravedigger. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They have the best of everything, they have the best mechanics, they have everything.
SPEAKER_04He was told when he was running it, Gravedigger always wins.
SPEAKER_03And I and I think that's him trying to say face for get his ass handed to him. Probably. But um I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I I have I personally feel like it's kind of like WWE. They they kind of cares.
SPEAKER_03It's high horsepower blasting around. Whatever.
SPEAKER_05You know, and I'll tell you what, it doesn't matter because my son absolutely fucking loves it.
SPEAKER_03And that's what it's all about I was gonna ask you if you're you know, if you realized who was here, because and I was talking to to uh his dad about it, you know, and I said, Hey, you know, because it'd be awesome to maybe do some sort of collaboration with him for the foundation, um, or maybe even have him on the podcast sometime, and his dad said, Well, I'll I'll pass on to Tyler and and you know, I there's paperwork and logistics because you know he's under contract, yeah, advertising contracts and everything else. So um just like any NASCAR driver.
SPEAKER_05And you're talking about the guy that was in the shorts and the boots, yep, had the light bar. Yep, yeah. I talked to him a little bit, just I was giving him shit about his Jeep because he has a Jeep.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And he has a couple other really cool, he's actually gonna put together, he was telling me the rig he's gonna put together just because he's got the parts lender on. And it's it's pretty cool. And it's not a Jeep.
SPEAKER_05And obviously, I'm talking shit because you know he he has a Jeep. I don't like Jeeps, but he was a super nice guy driving a Jeep this weekend twice. Well, I had to go take a poop and I didn't walk want to walk through the mood.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you rode in two different ones. I mean, you wouldn't walk at this weekend if it would have been.
SPEAKER_05Well, honestly, you're basically a Jeep guy all weekend. Your Jeep has square headlights and then Cody's Jeep Pass Square Headlights. Did you see any Toyotas down on the trail? I'm 17 hours from my house. It's a 17-hour round trip to go get my Toyota, but there was no Toyotas on the trail soon.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I saw one Toyota product and and it turned around and left at the gate.
SPEAKER_04He's got you there.
SPEAKER_06No, that was a uh there was a Toyota here. Yeah, there was. The Lexus was here.
SPEAKER_03I said, but they never. And what did it do? It turned around and went the f home. It made what? I felt bad for that guy because he actually had 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_05Or 20 feet.
SPEAKER_03He messaged the event the other day with a picture of it and said, I've never been off-roading before. I want to come support this event, so I'm coming down to go off-roading. And so he showed up, you know, and Andrew's like, that's the one he messaged. On a dry day, he probably would have been fine. Those would have been dryer. Those LX4 was LX470? Yes. They're actually a very capable rig.
SPEAKER_05He he would have been okay, but Rick. And he he he struggled backing out of this area, but and we just sat there.
SPEAKER_04I'm like, uh the Toyota saw the YJ and peed down his leg.
SPEAKER_05He got out and he he looked at us and said, Man, guys, I'm very sorry.
SPEAKER_06Like, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_05Just at least you tried.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, right. Yeah. Yeah. And I would have probably encouraged him, hey, try it again when it's not.
SPEAKER_03If he wasn't if he wasn't in the Des Moines area, I would have been like, you need to come to newbie day up.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_03Because that's when those need to be, you know.
SPEAKER_05And I'll be honest with you. Brother.
SPEAKER_06I can't wait to go to bed and listen to those fucking trucks drive by all goddamn night again.
SPEAKER_05And I'll be honest with you, as wet as it was here today, my truck would have been worthless. I mean, I don't have the horsepower to do you didn't need the horsepower. You didn't need it.
SPEAKER_04You didn't crawl the wheel speed.
SPEAKER_05I crawled the one hill in first gear. Okay, but how much horsepower? I have like, hey, 15 horsepower.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but you went right up a you went right up a muddy hill that I couldn't make at Indiana.
SPEAKER_05Because you cleared the line. I don't know about that. My toenails were in the fucking fan blade. Yeah. I was like, you know what?
SPEAKER_03Yes, you would have had to probably not use all your transfer cases down here, but I it was another trip. Oh this I looked at Ian I'm like, I can't I'm not even using the Magnum box. He goes, but you got it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I'd I'd like to come here again when it's a little bit drier because I I liked all the off-camber stuff. I I wonder going down through I that's my favorite. All the all the off-camber in the valleys and everything. And realistically, I don't like going down into the valleys or coming out of the valleys while we're driving around the bottom. That's my favorite.
SPEAKER_05Well I love that hill that we stopped at.
SPEAKER_07Um we just stopped to turn around. Yeah, we Nicky was dealing with his high idle.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Ricky had it just as idle. I looked down. It's like looking this way.
SPEAKER_04I'm just like, oh no. Well, no, drop it, had a turn. Yeah, that's what we said.
SPEAKER_07If it didn't have the turn and the big rock in the middle, I would have tried it. Well, it was bad enough.
SPEAKER_05Cody's like, no.
SPEAKER_07I'm like, well, if you're saying it that way, it's one of those hills when you have the low gears and all of a sudden the rear end decides it wants to start passing the fastest. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Once you would have hit that drop off, your SN would have unloaded because you're along for the ride and you wasn't making that turn.
SPEAKER_05If you decided to go down that hill, I'd be like, no, no. Going up, I'd be like, ugh, fuck it.
SPEAKER_07And that's one of those things where a drier day, a side by side, probably has made that hill. Oh, yeah. For sure. No. But it also seems like this property had they had lost some of their land to sold off.
SPEAKER_03They said some of the land. Yeah, I it it's kind of downside a little bit.
SPEAKER_01There was parts that they sold off just say earlier now I went and got my water bottle, etc. etc. from the van. Sounded like a tree fell down yonder.
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, I it did. It wouldn't surprise me. It sounded like a big tree.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it did. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Just here a little bit ago. Yeah, like just before. I wouldn't that's wet as this soil's gotten, I would not be surprised.
SPEAKER_01If it was mostly dry, like there wasn't like monsoon puddles everywhere, I would have taken the van down and take done all the bypasses.
SPEAKER_03I asked Adam's recompany. Honestly, I wouldn't let it be sitting down there. It's too nice. Just all the just all the bypasses and no no hills. I asked Adam, I said, You think the van would get down here? That one field road definitely was off chamber.
SPEAKER_05Angles and everything, and I just but the other one's gonna be.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if the least spring king can get through, I can get through.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. We got the other, you got the other van built for that. His windshield is plexiglass, and has nothing else. That is a fishbowl.
SPEAKER_06Just no. Yeah. Well, you put that on the side and you lost a lot of money.
SPEAKER_03Should we kick it over to the Patreon?
SPEAKER_06I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We've given them our.
SPEAKER_05Like, if Cody gets a dent in that Jeep, he's just like, oh, okay. Whatever.
SPEAKER_03I thought I thought we'll talk about that on the Patreon.
SPEAKER_01I asked Adam if we should turn the parts fan into an off-road vehicle. He's like, nah.
SPEAKER_06No, you always. Yes. No, you know on the on the off-road rig, huh?
SPEAKER_00I like the idea of a camper better.
SPEAKER_03That's what this one is.
SPEAKER_06The overlanding. I agree with that.
SPEAKER_05Overlanding stuff's fun. Chad, I'll tell you what, when I get my flight the truck that Chris is going to take, but I'm going to turn an off-road rig. You come get it, and Adam can. It's going to be just basically. Oh, we're trying to convert Adam to an off-roader. That's what we're doing. You can't mess it up. Actually, come come get Tiffany. You can drive my truck.
SPEAKER_03I offered him several times. He didn't want him.
SPEAKER_05You're not going to tear it up. You're taller than me, so you can reach the pedals. Hopefully you've listened.
Coming Back Next Year And Goodbyes
SPEAKER_03You've listened to this. Us just ramble and just general shed talk here about the event. It is shed talk.
SPEAKER_06It is. The owner asked. That's the title. Remember that, somebody. That's your job.
SPEAKER_03The owner did ask Andrea. He was here while we were down on the trails. And he says, Are you coming back next year? They put a very humbling post on their page about the event and how much it's I think we should come back.
SPEAKER_06If we vote on it, I'll vote yes.
SPEAKER_03I think it's a done deal. And maybe next year the rest of the group board. I know we have other board members that would have loved to been here. Um this was a last minute. I mean, we threw this together in like two and a half months.
SPEAKER_06We started talking about it. No, we started talking about it in January. Because I was in Mexico when we started discussing it. That's true, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well that was no. In January, it was to be a sponsor here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We didn't do anything about that. Was my end goal was sponsor, and then help him out and then talk to him. And but like actual logistics start putting things together was two and a half, three months.
SPEAKER_06I just thought of something funny. We need one of those run pri run prime videos of the thumb.
SPEAKER_03With his thumb. Yes. We need that for HTG. Yes. 100%. So, anyways, thank you all for being here. If you attended today, thank you for attending. We are gonna do it again next year, and there might be some other bigger ideas floating around that maybe we'll talk about on the Patreon.
SPEAKER_06We should probably keep that a secret, yeah. So make them wait for it. So much for getting them to pay five dollars.
SPEAKER_04Way this is big news. Ten if you want to be in the raffles. What's that? Ten if you want to get in the raffles.
SPEAKER_06Ten if you want to get in the ten if you want to get in the railroad.
SPEAKER_03We give something away every month. Right. Well, we attempt to. No, we give something away every month. It just may not happen in that month.
SPEAKER_04Actually, it's ten dollars and seventy cents if you really want to get the right. Well, you know, they gotta take their cut. That's their cut. They give shit away. I never win anything. I've heard your name.
SPEAKER_06You've won. What? I can tell you what name you won.
SPEAKER_05And don't forget, it's Dustin 20 at checkout if you want. See, this is why I can never build anything ever again, because I'm just gonna like forget about that. Like, you know, just go radio silence and then uh Dustin Speakman.
SPEAKER_062025, quarter four. That's where you got your shirt.
SPEAKER_04Uh a one edition t-shirt. A limited edition. That's all we do now.
SPEAKER_06We do t-shirts now. Yeah, we don't do it.
SPEAKER_01The original people don't have.
SPEAKER_06No one else can get that shirt but a winner. Here's the problem.
SPEAKER_03Only bounce the winners get that shirt.
SPEAKER_06And he got a sticker.
SPEAKER_05I don't know where that t-shirt's at.
SPEAKER_06I've seen him wearing it not that long ago. I know, but I lost it.
SPEAKER_03You dumbass.
SPEAKER_06Well, yeah, that's good. You need to keep paying for the Patreon and maybe you'll win again.
SPEAKER_03T-shirt than that shirt.
SPEAKER_05And his name is Rhymes Julian. Uh he got deployed to get it.
SPEAKER_04So he earned that one.
SPEAKER_05I think I know where that shirt's at. I think it's in my boy's dresser. I don't know how wound up there, but you are the same. Kids' shirt's best best of all the time. Check Tripp's closet. Oh, no. He's like daddy. Can I wear one of your t-shirts a bit? I'm like, yeah, fuck it.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you know what? There's another person that was here that we should talk to him about his t-shirt size. He'll hear it at some point.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well. Ones in purple haven't responded. Is that it?
SPEAKER_06Who is that? No, the ones in purple have responded.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Well, we can't tell them. They'll have to figure it out. They'll have to figure it out for yourself. All right.
SPEAKER_06We've told everybody a couple weeks ago who they were.
SPEAKER_03We've done this Iowa goodbye now.
SPEAKER_05Are we going to are we doing the Iowa goodbye or the Irish goodbye? I mean, we've been doing the Iowa goodbye for 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_03Right, we parked the Iowa goodbye in, so
